Wharfedale Dovedale 3 Vintage Stereo Speakers

One of my favourite vintage speakers, the Wharfedale Dovedale 3. These speakers produce a fantastic sound with deep tight bass thanks to the use of a 12″ rigid paper cone woofer. The 5″ mid is in its own enclosure within the cabinet, and combined with the famous purple tweeter, the sound is articulate and detailed. The mid range and treble can be adjusted to taste via two three way switches on the rear. They are quite sensitive speakers and don’t need much amplification to be driven, therefore working well with a wide range of amplifiers.
The drivers and crossovers are all in perfect working order. I have removed the crossovers and cleaned the switches on the back for smooth and silent operation. Although one mid range has a different chassis, it is indeed the correct unit for this speaker and I believe fitted from the factory, as there are no further screw holes when this is removed. The cabinets have had their old finish stripped off and three coats of quality Danish oil has been re-applied. Whilst there a couple of small marks left, they now look stunning. Two corners on the bottom of the speakers have been rebuilt. The grills are present and are in excellent condition. One grill has been restrengthened along its length with a piece of wood glued in place – not visible when on the speakers.
I used to refinish vintage speakers for a living, so you can rest assured that this pair is now in tip top condition!
