The D320’s from Wharfedale are the superior stand-mount speaker in the D300 series, above the D310’s and below the flagship D330 floorstanders. This is a complete re-invention of what a good a budget speaker range can be. Starting circa. 1980’s, Wharfedale created the blueprint for modern budget loudspeakers with the Diamond Series
The new budget range manages to occupy even lower price points than the existing Diamond 11 Series. The D300 do not have the curved cabinets of the Diamond 11 speakers, however, the enclosures incorporate many similar technologies, that have been re-designed and re-engineered specifically for the new range. The drive units and bass reflex system are special, so no other speaker range delivers such high specification at such low price points.
The D300 Series contain advanced drive units, such as the bass/mid drivers, are the latest generation of Wharfedales long-established woven Kevlar cones are bonded to a super-lightweight surround constructed from hi-tech foamed polyether, that delivers superb clarity, texture and musical expression. The cones are driven by a super-long-throw voice coil system, that ensures low-frequency linearity and accuracy that is exceptional for such loudspeakers.
Developed for the Diamond 11 Series and fine-tuned for the D300 range, Wharfedales WFR (Wide Frequency Response) tweeter incorporates its own ‘cabinet’, which is a precisely shaped rear chamber damped with a fibre filling. An over-sized ceramic magnet, selected to give a smoother transition from midrange to high frequencies, is attached to a pole piece with copper cap for flux control. The pole piece is vented through to the rear chamber to achieve a low resonant frequency, ensuring excellent linearity and allowing the textile dome, sited within a dished waveguide to contribute to a wonderfully lucid midrange as well as smooth, pure and richly defined high-frequency detail.
Despite the speakers’ compact size, the soundstage is substantial and engaging, with midrange definition transitioning seamlessly with fluid high-frequency detail. The Bass meanwhile has depth whilst still being accurate and controlled, which is due to the speakers advanced bass drivers and P-EQ bass reflex port. Whether your music taste is for the loud and energetic or soft and subtle, whether it be hard rock and fast electronica to classical compositions, the D300 Series speakers deliver true captivating and engrossing sound.
