Wayne Parham Four 4 Pi 15″ JBL B&C Horn Driver Constant Directivity Loudspeakers. Condition is Used.
Legendary speakers these. I built them from Wayne’s plans around 6 years ago, and they’re nothing less than the finest speakers that I’ve ever owned. The only speakers I’ve ever heard that I thought were even fractionally better were a set of Linkwitz Orions with I can’t even tell you how many channels of amplification, and a price tag well into five figures. These Pi speakers are truly special.
They’re made up from 15″ JBL2226H drivers and B&C DE250 compression drivers, with Wayne’s own design waveguide. They’re not available in the UK so I had to import them from him in Oklahoma. The crossovers were custom built for me by Audio Components. Just in parts alone, these speakers cost the best part of 1800.
The boxes are made exactly to Wayne’s design. 18mm MDF, cross-braced in all 3 dimensions with solid ash. I then sealed the cabinets on the inside with fibreglass resin so they are completely airtight. The drivers and waveguides are fixed with stainless steel hex bolts. Each box weighs about 40kg. It had always been my intention to veneer them, but as always, life takes over! Plus if I’m honest I was quite impatient to hear them! I decided to leave them as bare wood, as “veneering the speakers” is above 3 places below “build a bigger veneer press” which is in turn 700 places below all other house jobs… Being able to redecorate the speakers with the room turned out to not be too big an issue!
They’ll handle 600w, but with the horn driver are extremely sensitive. I’ve been running them with an 8W valve amp,and can’t get that close to full power as they’re too loud!! Valves and horns are a beautiful combination in my opinion and I’d highly recommend it.
So why am I selling them? I’ve moved house and there’s nowhere for them. It’s been a really difficult decision – even contemplated moving the house around!! – but the reality is that they’re never going to fit. So that’s why. These are AMAZING speakers and will astonish you if you’ve not heard them. There’s a thriving fanbase online for these. I’ve knocked up a couple of quick stands to angle them correctly, and they’re included. Collection only, obviously!!!
