At theheart of the 925 you will find many of Trilogys award winning technologies.The balanced input stage uses the 6H6 super tube to provide pure triode ClassA, zero feedback voltage gain of exceptional linearity. The output stage hasour unique zero feedback MOSFET and bipolar topology in a bridge configurationfor 135w of power with impressive control. Theamplifier is fully symmetrical inside and out. Unlike many other amplifiersclaiming to be balanced, the signal positive and signal negative are never tiedto ground in the 925. A powerful and fully customisable input management systemalso interfaces with the outside world and other Trilogy products via TASlink. TechnicalDetails: Audio:Aswith all Trilogy designs a short, pure signal path is central to the 925sdesign philosophy. The internal architecture is fully balanced, from the relayinput switching and volume control, right through to the valve input stage andbridge power amplifier. The signal is never converted internally to singleended to maintain maximum signal integrity. Threefully balanced and three single ended rear panel inputs are switched viainstrumentation grade ruthenium plated relays within millimeters of the rearpanel connectors. A separately selectable auxiliary loop is provided. Inaddition, a 3.5mm jack on the front panel allows portable sources to beconnected quickly and easily. A carefully selected audio grade digitallycontrolled potentiometer provides volume control and balance in 1.0dB steps. Eachchannel has two directly coupled dual triode 6H6 valves that form the inputstage. This Russian military tube has outstanding performance, achieving bothhigh trans-conductance and very high linearity for peerless audio performance. Theyprovide all the voltage gain for the amplifier in a single stage. A carefullyoptimised servo ensures the valves operate perfectly symmetrically. Ourhallmark discreet HT shunt regulators provide the valves with pure regulatedDC. The valves drive only the input to the output stage and need to sourcelittle current. As they operate best as pure voltage devices, the 925 candeliver all the vibrancy and detail that valves can offer, without compromisingoperating life or reliability. The925s unconventional output stage uses a small FET with the addition of a highcurrent bipolar device. The fast, agile FET only operates within the criticalfirst watt region. An amplifier will typically spend most of its time in thispower band at normal listening levels. The bipolar transistors then seamlesslycontribute high current when music conditions demand. This topology helpsto preserve the vital micro detail that brings music alive, whilstsimultaneously being able to source high currents for moving the loudspeakerinstantaneously when needed. Theoutput stages are arranged in a bridge configuration. Each channel has twopower amplifiers that simultaneously pull and push power to the loudspeaker.The principal benefit is that large currents are kept out of the system ground,keeping the amplifier stable and composed during large scale musical events.The output devices are configured to operate in a high bias state, giving agenerous envelope of Class A operation. The relatively high dissipation, inconjunction with the high thermal inertia of the heat-sink, keeps the devices intheir optimum operating condition and improves sound quality. Conventionalextruded heat-sinks display strong resonant signatures and have been rejected infavour of custom, machined solid billets of aluminium. Each weighs in excess of5kg. Their high mass and irregular form provide outstanding mechanical andthermal stability for the output devices. This bringing substantial sonicbenefits as semiconductors are surprisingly sensitive to vibration andtemperature changes. Feedingthe 925 is a substantial faraday screened power supply transformer withseparate windings and rectifiers for either channel. Custom Trilogy reservoircapacitors smooth each channel of the output stage DC and valve HT supplies.The valve heaters and logic supplies each have their own power transformers tokeep internal electrical noise to an absolute minimum. Thepower transformers are mounted on a thick machined plate of K-material. Thishigh metal, low resin content composite has excellent mechanical properties andsuperior self-damping to metal. It provides additional damping and stiffeningof the non-magnetic chassis too. K-material is also used for the feet,providing the optimum interface between the 925 and the equipment support. Theamplifier has a sophisticated monitoring system to maintain safe operation atall times. Temperatures and critical voltages report to a dedicatedmicro-controller. An intensive R&D project produced specially formulatedalgorithms to monitor output current against time and frequency with greataccuracy. This enables reliable discrimination between DC faults or demandingmusical conditions, providing excellent protection but avoiding unwantedshutdowns. Likeall Trilogy designs, the 925 has peerless build quality, driven by ourobsessive attention to detail. Premium and custom parts are used throughout.Solid copper binding posts, PTFE insulated gold plated connectors, precisionpassive components are all carefully selected to enhance sound quality andreliability alike. Control:Theperfectly weighted control knob and two machined stainless steel push buttonsaccess the control menu hierarchy. All high level functions such as volume,balance and input select are intuitively accessible.Remotecontrol is via infrared handset, the machined from solid PRC is a perfectcompliment. The dot matrix LED panel display is designed to be fully legibleacross a room. Brightness can be configured to track the ambient light level oris manually adjustable. Eachinput can be left as factory preset or given a custom label of your choicewhich is displayed each time the input is selected. A gain trim can also beassigned to each input to equalise volume levels between sources. Balancecontrol is available in 1dB steps. Default start up volume and balance settingscan be saved via the menu system. Phaseinversion can be easily accessed from the remote handset for comparison whilstlistening or set as a default within the menu. A realtime clock provides multi event, seven day system switch on, switch off withexternal communication via our proprietary communication interface: TAS link.This allows you to fully warm up your system before coming home to listen. Asleep function provides power down after a selected period of your choice. OtherTrilogy products can be Named via TAS link for status monitoring and remotecontrol. Any intelligent features will then be available for use or monitoringvia the 925. A widerange of user programmable defaults are possible, including setting the homepage display and PIN protected control menu locking. The925 can be PIN protected for your security. If enabled in the menu,disconnection from the mains supply for more than thirty minutes will require aPIN to be entered to continue operation. Other Trilogy products can be bondedto the 925 via TAS link for system wide security. This function prevents thebonded units from operating if they are not connected to their bonded master925. Simply select un-bond within the menu to break the link for transportationor audition in other systems. TASlink is Trilogys proprietary interface bus; designed expressly for the highresolution audio environment. It is a fully bidirectional system which meansany intelligent future products are able to interface seamlessly with existingones, without the need for software upgrades. Commonly found RJ45 connectorsare used for linking products together. DC and general purpose lines (GPI)allow some functions to be used with remotely controlled equipment from othermanufacturers. Status reporting, remote interrogation and control ofother Trilogy products as well as user configurable bus settings are all withinTAS links remarkable reach. Thereare two independent bus systems within TAS link: one to carry high speed datafor interface and housekeeping and QuietBus which only interfaces with theaudio circuits. Unlike most micro controlled systems, QuietBus is only activewhen a command is sent and operates at very low data rates. This keepsthe audio circuits completely free of high speed digital and control relatednoise.
