Teleton TRP200 manufactured and marketed by Mitsubishi of Japan. Like the Realistic Lab series decks sold in the U.K. around the same time, this too is an extremely solid good performing deck. It certainly puts to shame a lot of newer tables selling up to 500. It comes fitted with a quality Ortofon cartridge with elliptical stylus. The stylus looks ok and the cantilever is straight. You would need to spend 100+ if you were looking to improve on this.As with a lot of Japanese decks at the time this was fitted with an auto return feature for convenience. The mechanism however detracted from the sound output by allowing vibration to be transmitted back through the arm. I have removed the problem slide mechanism making the turntable fully manual. Its removal means means a lot less feedback on par with more expensive decks. The walnut wood effect plinth is braced and solidly built. There are a couple of small chips at the side along the bottom edge and a small bobble just beneath the counterweight. These are hardly noticeable and just mentioned for full disclosure. I replaced the safety capacitor as the old one was out of spec. The original thin budget rca leads have been replaced with a longer pair of fully screened leads and better locking rca plugs. The earth lead was also replaced. The cuing lever works but is not dampened. The S shaped arm is in good order with the odd mark. The bearings have been checked and adjusted. I removed the centre spindle and cleaned the bearing aperture. This was refilled with v high quality graphite oil. The motor was oiled and speed checked. The Perspex lid is quite substantial and a lot better than the current flimsy versions. The lid has customary light scratches from use and cleaning. The hinges are still strong and effective in holding the lid at 45 degrees. The arm rest has been tightened. The original 45 adaptor is still in place. The quality 3 pin plug has a new 5 amp fuse fitted. As the deck isnt suspended I decided to fit better feet which add mass and provide much improved isolation. The rubber mat is thick and dampens effectively.A new drive belt has been fitted of the correct size. The previous belt, allegedly new, was too small putting unnecessary stress on the motor bearings and causing problems with speed change. The speeds are selected by push buttons on the top of the plinth. A nice and uncommon feature is the on/off power supply button. The motor on/off micro switch has been adjusted and cleaned. It operates flawlessly. When you raise the cueing lever and move the arm laterally the micro switch activates the motor and the platter rotates at the selected speed. At the end of the record you need to raise the arm with the cuing lever and move it to the rest position where the micro switch shuts off the platter motor. This deck will be sadly missed but I cant keep everything! A lot of work and improvements have been made to this deck a joy to listen to. I dont have a suitable box to ship this so it will have to be collection only Im afraid. I live close to J21 on the M5.
