Up for sale is my very rare Technics RS DC 10 DCC digital tape deck.
This deck is being sold in fully functional condition, with original remote control, original manual, 8 brand new blank (sealed) DCC tapes, an original DCC Allsop head cleaner kit, and 6 pre-recorded DCC titles:
Elton John: The OnePrince & the New Power Generation: Diamonds and PearlsAmy Grant: Heart in MotionBob Marley & the Wailers: LegendElla Fitzgerald: Ella Returns to BerlinVanessa Williams: The Comfort Zone
DCC was a digital tape format invented by Philips in the early-mid 1990s. It was on sale briefly before being defeated by Sony’s MiniDisc format, despite sounding much better. DCC was unique in that it was backwardly compatible with standard analog tape cassettes – decks could play back standard analog tapes as well as play and record in the new digital format. DCC Tapes had a text function so that pre-recorded titles could display track and artist names. DCC sounds outstanding – it is the tape equivalent of CD.
Due to its relatively short time on the market, it is now hugely collectable and individual pre-recorded tapes can sell for over $100 each.
This Technics Deck offers backwards compatibility (like other DCC decks). It will play and record digital DCC tapes, and play back original analogue cassette tapes. Note that it is extremely unusual to find this Technics model on eBay ! See the following for a comprehensive review of this deck: http://www.hifi-review.com/153469-technics-rs-dc10.html – the review concludes with the following:
“There is no question in my mind that DCC’s PASC encoding scheme can provide fidelity that is virtually indistinguishable from that of compact discs, and the RS-DC10 again proved the point. Both classical and pop prerecorded tapes sounded great, and after trying for some time to distinguish by ear between my digitally copied tapes and the original CD’s, I finally gave up and simply succumbed to the outstanding DCC sound. The RS-DC10 thoroughly validates the philosophy behind DCC, that a snazzy new digital recording format can peacefully coexist in the same box with a long established analog format. It’s an amazing feat, and the RS-DC10 is a terrific example of this new breed of audio component.”
Note that given its age, the deck is in excellent condition, although there is cosmetic scratching on the top cover – see the photo in the listing for detail. THIS DECK IS UK (240v) AND WILL ONLY OPERATE ON THE UK POWER SUPPLY. USE IN THE USA OR ELSEWHERE WILL REQUIRE THE CORRECT VOLTAGE/POWER CONVERTER.
I would prefer that this item is collection only, given its age and value, although have included domestic shipping. Please note that if I ship the deck and accessories they will be securely packaged but any shipping (if agreed) will be at the risk of the purchaser.
Don’t miss this opportunity – you’re unlikely to see it again any time soon ! Happy Bidding ! NOTE ALSO THAT THE BLU RAY PLAYER IN THE PICTURES IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE
