Here for sale are my wonderful Tannoy Chatsworth 12 HPD/315/8 speakers.
Original factory stickers to the rear for June 1975 with close serial numbers. The front Tannoy badges are present and correct; both grilles are in super condition as you can see.
The cabinets are in good original condition for their 44 years – no restoration work has been done. Please study the photographs. The wood has a deep patina, grain and shine. There are some old marks and chips to the wood, mainly on the front bottom edges as per photos, but if you want perfect as new cabs then you have the option to refurbish them. The crossovers are original. For me the perfect balance was to have the treble energy set to -1 and the HF roll off set to flat, but you can experiment to suit your room.
These speakers have given me so much pleasure and with a vinyl front end I have enjoyed glorious sound quality with tube, solid state or hybrid amplification over the years. You get that wonderful integration of sound from the full range drivers and like the finest speakers they will show their best with a very wide range of music, everything from Deep Purple to Dvorak
Also included are a pair of beautiful custom made oak spiked stands, so you can hear the speakers at their peak. I had these made for two reasons – firstly they get the centre of the HPD driver around ear height; secondly, with sand loading of the hollow centres of the stands they tighten up the bass appreciably. The sand is loaded in stockings (good tip this!), so it can be easily removed if need be.
