Here is my Tact 2.2x pre-amp  I have had for a number of years, although I have never used it’s room correction functionality, just the bypass !

I did list it before but ended the listing as I discovered that the analogue input were noisy, you can hear the music but distorted.

I did have a cursory look for an audio engineer to fix it but no more than that, and now I’ve decided to list it and if you want the analogue input then either find an audio engineer or DIY if you have the skills. It’s probably the capacitors, but I have never used this input until the moment of testing.

[I have this problem with no analog inputs on the Oppo 205 I replaced it with but I am going to use a Korg unit which has an RIAA stage to feed a digital input into the Oppo. Email me for details if you are interested.]

As a straight pre-amplifier is is pretty transparent and a lot better than the Quad 34 I used in the early days. I’ve used several very good pre-amps since then and was happy to use this one. The DAC is pretty good and operates at 24bit/192k I think, but check the reviews…

Now I am in a new house after a divorce and have the opportunity to put bass traps and wall treatments up to my satisfaction, so that is what I am going to do instead.

The Tact also has a subwoofer output which I never used but it tested OK when it was enabled from the menu. I have tested that all the digital inputs work, although I didn’t test the XLR ones.

Included is the Tact microphone it uses to make its calibration and correction curve, and also an RS-232 to USB interface I bought on recommendation so a USB based computer can interface to it, although I never used it.

Included is the Tact remote control, but the Tact is also on Logitech’s database for their Harmony remote controls so is easy to set up on one of those.

The original manual is included, which is also at :

http://www.lauferteknik.net/support_docs/tact/RCS%202.2X%20Manual.pdf

and I will include a USB drive with the following files :

Install Tact-2.2X V2.4.152F10.exe
RCS 2.2X Firmware Update.pdf
RCS 2.2X Manual.pdf
RCS 2.2X Quick Setup.pdf
RCS 2.2X RS232 Connection.pdf

There are several reviews around but here is a quality one :

I think the main difference between this and the 2.2xp was the xp had loudness correction according to the volume, but there is only really one correct volume according to your listening position anyway, so I never stressed about it.

I’ve put 20 postage but I use parcel monkey and will revise down if I can find a cheaper quote. Collection is available.

One thing of interest might be that I used to feed this DAC with the digital input from my Sony TV via toslink, as I found that taking the output instead from whichever box was feeding the TV, like a bluray player or tivo box, just ended up with significant lip-sync problems.

Effectively I was using the TV as an HDMI switch box with a digital audio output.

But when I replicated this setup with the Oppo UDP-205 I got bad lip-sync as the Oppo takes more time to processs the signal 🙁 So now I have to use the Oppo with an HDMI switch box into its single HDMI and try to correct any lipsync with the audio delay on the Oppo, but this seems very hit and miss due to variable quality soources and the results are much less satisfactory than with the Tact!

Hopefully that’s clear, but email me if you want more details. Basically I am saying that the Tact imposes no detectable lag on the input signal, whereas the digital inputs on the replacement Oppo do.
