I’m selling a pair of The Spendor Bc1, priced to sell.

They are very smart as can be seen from the pictures , in a black finish. Photos taken in intense sunshine, so you can see most things, softer light at home remember. They look great.

It has orginal and very good order drivers and furthermore the basses are genuine original Spendor drives. The case is in good order in black and the mesh and mesh frames has been renewed.

It is basically a three-way system with points of crossover around 3 kHz and 13 kHz. “BC” stands for Bextrene cone Celestion tweeter, according to Ken Grey, former Spendor employee.
The midbass is a small 8″ driver fitted with a bextrene cone and an inverted rubber surround, in fact quite similar to the KEF B200, SP1039. From 3kHz the Celestion HF1300 tweeter is taking over and runs up to its intrinsic upper limit around 13 kHz from where it rolls off steeply. To help in the top octave, a Coles 4001 super tweeter is used; a small 3/4″ tweeter fitted with a plastic dome. The 4001 super tweeter has a 23 ohms DC resistance, quite unusual. Generally the DC resistance of all drivers is high, making this speaker as useful with a digital amp, as I do, and an ideal partner for valve amplifiers or the Quad 33/303 as I have done. The serial numbers are sequential 19459/60.

Overall I’ve found the BC1 a very well executed loudspeaker. The use of a thin-walled plywood cabinet has its pros and cons. The midbass delivers an excellent midrange and the transition to the Celestion HG1300 tweeter is very well done.
Any brightness may easily be adjusted by adding a little attenuation to the HF1300 tweeter. The key is that they sound terrific, the bass is clear and well controlled and the upper registers are only out punched by much more expensive speakers. Don’t over drive them and you’ll have years of happy listening

Have some good sounds to listen to during our isolations, I’m selling these purely due to upgrading.
