This is one of the few cassette decks that Sony made that came with Dolby S noise reduction. This one is from around 1994 if I recall correctly. The full specs and manuals can be found online, but the most important specs are:

– Dolby S on both playback and recording decks (sounds fantastic, virtually no tape hiss!)

– 2-Head mechanism

– Pitch control on Playback deck (very useful on old tapes!)

– Memory Programmable to dub tapes in a different order in which the original was copied.

– High speed dubbing

– Auto tape calibration (very useful too to get the most out of your tapes)

In addition to the normal specs, the deck has been recently serviced, including:

– Speed calibrated and checked

– All internal belts replaced with new ones

– All 4 pinch rollers replaced with new ones (the close-up photos still show the old ones but the deck will come with the new ones installed, guaranteed)

Cosmetically, the deck is in Excellent condition. Very little marks around the body and front. The photos should describe those clearly, please check them in detail.

The deck was imported from the USA, so it runs on 110volts, although a USA to UK Power adaptor is included in the auction so you don’t have to worry as it’s perfectly usable in the UK with it.

I should mention one more important thing about the deck mechanism. Every time the Play, Stop, Rewind of FFWD buttons are pressed, right before actioning, the mechanism leaves a tiny bit of tape slack, which then picks up by itself and does not cause any issues (at least during my extensive tests). It’s something that only lasts half a second just before actioning and can’t really be messed with, but someone that doesn’t know about this (very common on Sony decks) could get worried it could be a malfunction. I don’t think it is as it doesn’t cause any harm to tapes. If you are ok with this then by all means bid on it.

So just to make it super clear, the machine works fine and plays and records tapes perfectly. It does not eat tapes or anything like that, but do bear in mind the details from previous paragraph.

I’m happy to answer any questions. Will pack carefully. Thanks!
