this together with the almighty TTS -3000/2251/1800A are my ever favourite turntable, lovely endless Classic modernist style , 70s forever, multi volt table in very good working conditionno Dust coverCatridge :Sure 91ED The wooden plinth has some nicks gained with time, tear and ware solid turntable made in the Sony Golden era. Taken from TVK:I unfortunately have misplaced my original TTS-2500 catalog so, until I find it back, here are the turntables based on that drive.
At the heart of all of these versions is the 15kgTTS-2500 LP drive which replaced the 1967 belt-driven TTS-3000 in 1971 : direct-driven servo motor equivalent (but less powerful) to the big league TTS-4000.Several plinths were available (separately or not) and two “basic” tonearms were planted into the less costly versions : one that looks (partly) derived from the PUA-237 and one that is on the lower scale of things.
The PS-2250 is the european equivalent of the japanese PS-2500 : TTS-2500 drive, a solid base, no separate armboard and either a “basic” tonearm installed (mostly sourced from Grace in Japan – Yoshihisa Mori, developer of the XL-55, was at Grace before joining Sony 🙂 or a PUA-1500S.
The base for the european version was available separately in white or nussbaum under the name TAC-2250.Germany seems to have named the TTS-2500 inside the PS-2250 “TTS-2250” (for the sake of coherence I guess) but it really is a regular TTS-2500.
The PS-2251 is the USA version of the european PS-2250 with a semi-floating base ( la PS-3000), a separate armboard and a “basic” tonearm ; the PS-2251/LA is the same but free of pre-installed tonearm.
With a PUA-1500S, the european PS-2250 was named PS-2250A ; in Japan it had a detachable armbase and was named… PSE-2500.There also was a PS-2510 which was made of the TTS-2500 drive, a solid plinth, dustcover and (another Grace) tonearm.
All versions sold extremely well worldwide and are still very sought-after.
