The Rotel RP-830 TurntableThe Rotel RP-830 Turntable was made inthe heyday of Hi-Fi Manufacture when quality of build, materials and design was of the utmostimportance. I remember this model beingdemonstrated in the top Hi-Fi dealers of the Eighties as a high qualityJapanese turntable as a suitable alternative to Britishmade decks of the period. The Rotel RP-830 design opted for avery heavy solid base with some damping provided by the feet. A High quality central bearing supports theplatter. The very heavy and superbly craftedsteel platter is beautifully made and this one has a lovely shiny finish, whichis very reminiscent of when these turntablesfirst appeared on the market as thecondition is so good. The tonearm is very solid and dependableand the headshell can be loosened with an allen key should you need to fit anew cartridge/stylus. The turntable is fully manual and yousimply turn on, move the arm into positionusing the raise/lower lever to lowerthe tonearm onto your vinyl – then listen tocrystal clear sounds. The even running from the platter andsteady control from the tonearm adds up to a killer combination in conjunctionwith belt drive. The Rotel RP-830 plays at 33 and 45speed. The belt is flipped by hand tothe lower pulley for 45 for singles.With the belt provided I found thepitch to be spot on, all backed up by Rotels design specifications and highquality components. A Highly finished turntable in termsof cabinet furniture is the Rotel RP-830 and the quality of the platter andmost of all high quality High Fidelity sound of good tone is ably assisted by a verycapable AT1600L Cartridge & Stylus.
