This is an auction for a good used pair of Rogers Studio Export.
While owned by the previous owner the bass units were overloaded. These have been replaced with the nearest equivalent, which are the same as used in Rogers Export monitors (the previous Rogers model) and very similar. I have another pair of Studio 1’s and cannot hear a difference.
Serial numbers ST3386A/B.
The Export Monitors were designed by Rogers as a successor to the BBC LS3/6.
There is plenty of information to be found here:https://www.markhennessy.co.uk/rogers/others.htm#export-monitor
In good condition for vintage speakers, the cabinets are in fair condition but with some marks, knocks and scratches most of which are not visible from a normal listening distance. The top of one cabinet has a fine crack along the front (please see pictures which I will be adding to in the next couple of days.). The top of one cabinet has a fine crack along the front. One side of one cabinet has some scratches, which have been touched in as far as possible. The undersides have marks and scratches where they have been moved on and off of stands over the years.
One grille badge is missing. Also each grill has one of the clips which hold it in place missing. My starting price reflects all these minor issues.
The drive units are a Dalesford 8″ bass unit, Celestion HF1300 tweeter and Celestion HF2000 super tweeter. The supertweeters originally had small protective grilles. These are mossing, but can be bought for around 30.
They sound sublime, as you would expect from a Rogers monitor. They seem to disappear, allowing you to get on with the business of enjoying the music. They are also completely non-fatiguing, so can be enjoyed for hours on end! In particular they have that smooth and appealing mid-range, again associated with Rogers monitors.
I believe they are the best of the bunch of BBC related vintage monitors, having compared them to the Spendor BC1 and Harbeth HL, all of which I’ve owned over the years. They even sounded better (to my ears) than the later Spendor SP1/2.
You may wonder why I am selling them if they are so good. I have a pair of Rogers Studio Ones in a teak finish which I slightly prefer, otherwise I would be keeping these.
I will ship internationally to Europe, the USA and Japan, please email for an accurate shipping cost.
I will not ship to certain destinations, eg Russia, China and Thailand. Please see the list of exclusions.
These speakers are large and heavy and therefore will be shipped in individual double walled cartons, specially packed to withstand the courier service, tracked and fully insured.
As I am sure you will appreciate, this is not an inexpensive option.
As a rough guide to shipping, domestic, 35, Europe 85, USA 185, Far East 245.
I will deliver within a 50 mile radius of Bristol for the cost of petrol.
They can also be collected from Bristol.
On 12-Jan-19 at 19:06:04 GMT, seller added the following information:I have posted clearer pictures of the drive units, taken with a flash. These show the alternative mounting arrangements of the replacement bass units.
