quad esl 63 Electrostatic speakers – One unit not working. Condition is For parts or not working.
I bought these 5 years ago from the original owner who owned them since new in 1982.Last year, one of the units developed a feint crackling sound from the top panel. The other unit works absolutely fine and sounds excellent. Hence I am marking this sale as for parts/not working as the crackling panel will need replacing. Reconditioned panels can be obtained here on eBay for around 100 but unless you are a very proficient audio technician, I would recommend the panel be replaced by Quad or a specialist like One Thing Audio.Both units are in very good cosmetic condition for their age although there are a few holes and nicks to the fabric (as shown in the photos). The original owner bought a spare pair of grille cloths from Quad which have never been used, so if the new owner likes, you can replace the existing cloths with the new ones. There are also custom made black protective covers. The original owner also had custom made stands on castors which are a little tatty but work properly and their condition is not very noticeable unless you look closely. Lastly, the speakers come with power cables although one is about 20cm longer than the other – this is how they came when I bought the speakers from the original owner. Also included is a Quad brochure from 1988. Sadly I neither have the time or the resources to take them up to Quad for repair and since I dont have proper boxes, Im not going to risk posting these.These are collection in person only. I will not post them due to fragility and risk of damage in transit.Thanks for looking and please ask any questions via eBay.
