This set was my father’s pride and joy. He cherished it for many years, with it last being serviced in about 2016/7. However, when his hearing started to deteriorate rapidly a year or so ago it was put into storage, and he now is unable to derive any benefit or joy from it, so it’s here for sale. They were used with his beloved ESL57s through which he enjoyed his classical music collection for many years.
The set was serviced by an independent Quad specialist, with the majority of the capacitors on the 33’s internal boards being replaced and upgraded from the originals. The 303 had its driver boards repopulated with new capacitors at the same time, and the bias was reset. The main output caps were replaced about 7 years ago, and when last serviced in 2016/17 were deemed still in very good shape, so they are still as they were from 7 years ago.
None of the switches has any problems, none of the controls crackle, and the volume pot and switch work as you’d expect, without any harshness, crackling, the channel balance is still really close and the phono stage is also very quiet.
The 303 exhibits no hum, and other than the very reassuring faint deep ‘thump’ on switch-on you’d never know they were on.
The tuner’s lights all light up, and the tuning indicators all seem to function properly but sadly the connecting signal lead between tuner and 33 has gone awol. As all my own audio gear is phono-sockets only I cannot connect it up, but knowing my father that will have been checked, and any work done along with the other items.
Cosmetically all the units are in pretty good shape, but please do bear in mind they are now well over 40 years old, so do show some minor marks. Just realised that the 33 and FM3 were photographed without their feet. Worry not; all are present and will be included. Apologies for the oversight!
Mains leads are present, as is the 33-to-303 4-pin DIN signal lead.
All the original boxes are present, and if couriered these will be used. However, all three can be put in one large box for shipping / courier if the winning bidder so chooses.
