QUAD 21L2 SPEAKERS (PAIR)
In true tradition, the new Quad 21L2 dynamic loudspeakers offer levels of detail, neutrality and stereo imaging beyond anything else in their category. Following in the footsteps of their famous ESL brethren, the Quad 11L set new standards of performance at their prices. A wide frequency response and incredibly accurate drivers produce a sound-stage so vivid and coherent you can visualise each and every sound in three dimensional space. The cabinet volume and drive unit size are much larger than the 11L to produce a wider frequency response in the bass region plus a 6.5″ (170mm) KEVLAR bass/mid driver replaces the 5″ unit.
Elegant and simple, the uncluttered design has a remarkable dynamic range for such a small speaker – a consequence of the accuracy and speed of the long-throw driver under pressure. Build-quality is, as you would expect, superb. Each cabinet is made from reinforced 18mm MDF, with a choice of four real wood veneers. Each cabinet then has seven coats of piano lacquer applied, with each coat drying for a full 24 hours before being cut and polished ready for the next coat.
The gold-plated terminals on the Quad 21L2 offer the facility of bi-wiring. Even if your amplifier has only one set of loudspeaker terminals, significant sonic advantages can be gained by using a good quality bi-wire cable, linking them at the amplifier end, but separating them at the loudspeaker end. This reduces the intermodulation effects and improves the ‘openness’ and clarity of the speaker still further.
The lustrous piano finish is applied to each speaker by hand over a period of seven days, each of which involves applying a coat of lacquer which must then dry at an ambient temperature before being cut and polished. The final coat is polished to a high gloss finish to produce one of the finest finishes seen on any loudspeaker in this class.
High quality gold-plated bi-wire terminals on the Quad 21L2’s and oxygen free internal wiring ensure excellent signal transmission.
