Neat’s QC is very strict, so even speakers with ridiculously small (almost invisible) marks are labelled as ‘slight cosmetic seconds’. Take a look at the photos above – you can’t see those marks at all unless you are very close to the speakers. They are totally invisible in normal use.

Our review of the Neat Motive SX2
At only 76cm tall and clad in beautiful wood veneers, the fabulous Neat Motive SX2 complements any type of room decor, yet produces the sort of sound quality normally associated with designs of at least twice its size. Astonishing really, when you consider that these speakers stand at not much more than ‘thigh height’.
The Motive SX2 still features the same bass/midrange driver as the highly successful outgoing, older Motive 2, but now it vents via a stylish MDF plinth. In addition, there is a new, completely separate internal enclosure for high frequency output, featuring a highly upgraded tweeter, with a huge screened magnet assembly and a 25mm inverted anodised dome. This type of tweeter is usually only found in speakers costing far more than the SX2. To accommodate these changes, the new speaker has a revised and upgraded crossover, plus a re-working of the reflex port tuning.
The result of utilising all these excellent components in such an innovative design, is that the SX2 represents an almost unique proposition in the world of speakers, because it has one of the smallest physical footprints of any floorstander, yet produces a huge, highly engaging sonic landscape. If you listen to these speakers with your eyes closed, you would swear that you must be in the presence of a very larger floorstanding design. The 3 dimensional presentation of any musical piece is handled brilliantly, but it is, (as many reviewers have commented) the infectious rhythm and impeccable timing of these speakers that makes them such a joy to own. Very few compact designs are capable of casting such a sonic spell over the listener.
The bottom line is that if you’re in the market for a pair of small speakers that will look great in your lounge, yet will produce the sort of sound quality that you usually only get from huge ‘divorce-inducing’ ultra expensive designs then SX2’s are the perfect choice. For there size these speakers are absolutely sensational!
