Up for  auction is a Nakamichi DRAGON, 3 head stereo cassette deck. The deck is fully serviced and the following repairs have been done:
– Cleaned the heads and the pinch rollers.- Cleaned the old lubricants from capstans/shafts/gears/axles/arms and lubricated the mechanism transport.- Changed the belts and the idler tire.- Changed the reels sensor lamps.- Changed the cassette compartment lamp.- Checked the playback and record heads for correct height and azimuth, no need for adjustment.

– Replaced all the old Nichicon electrolytic caps in the audio circuits, using new Nichicon MUSE non-polar caps.

– Replaced the SHOEI blue electrolytic caps using United (Nippon) Chemicon caps in logic section and Nichicon Gold line audio caps in power supply circuit sections.

– Replaced the SHOEI orange electrolytic caps, using Elna Silmic II caps.

– Replaced the orange (polypropylene) caps using WIMA and Panasonic polypropylene caps.

– Upgraded the 1uF electrolytic caps in audio circuits, using WIMA polypropylene caps.

– Upgraded the NJM 072D playback eq and Dolby op-amps using the OPA2134PA op-amps, the NJM 2043DD record op-amplifier using the NE5532P op-amp,  the NJM2041DD line output op-amp using the OPA2227PA op-amp. The choice of the op-amps is based to Alex Nikitin suggestions. The ICs are placed in sockets, anytime you can replace them with the old ones or other of your preference.

– Upgraded the PD4066BC quad analog switches in the audio section using Texas Instruments CD4066BE chips.- Tested record and playback using pink noise  (20Hz to 22Khz).- Tested record and playback using tones at 15Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 15kHz, 20kHz, without Dolby, with Dolby b & c.
All the functions are operating as they should be, playback, record, ff, rew, pause, cue, auto reverse, dolby b & c, counter, memory, test tones, tape calibration, NAAC operation. The sound is rich and warm, the stereo  image wide, the bass tight and deep and the high frequencies crystal clear. The cassette mechanism run smoothly and the recordings are also perfect  in frequencies from 15Hz to 22kHz. Externally the deck is in very good condition, concerning the age. The faceplate is clean, free of scratches or dents and the top faceplate and cover had a few light scratches which I covered. This is a 120V model. S/N 05169, production date 1983. With the deck are included  the copy of the owner’s manual and all the old parts (belts, capacitors, ICs). All the questions are very welcome.

I moved  recently in US from Greece, where I was working in Greek Nakamichi service during 90’s and I have all the professional equipment (original test tapes, oscilloscope, wow & flutter meter, distortion meter, frequency response meter). If you need any help with your deck I’ll be happy to help you. See also  my other items and my feedback.

Please ask for the shipping cost. Usually is $25 to $65 depending the state, plus insurance cost (approx $10 to $15), plus USPS  special handling fee ($10.45). If you’re leaving in Chicago you are very welcome to visit me and listen the performance of the deck. Thank you for looking.
