Naim NAC92 and NAP90/3 Classic Naim pre/power amp combo Excellent examples With boxesand manuals Pre-ampserviced 2012 SNAIC4 connection cable included Serial numbers – 93***/159*** About this NAC92 and NAP90/3 Thisis a superb example of the classic Naim NAC92 pre and NAP90/3 power amp combo, whichhave the benefit of having their boxes with inner packing, instructionmanuals and SNAIC 4 interconnect. They are in perfect working orderwith no excessive transformer hum or sonic distortion. The power switch isprecise, sockets secure and the Naim logos light up correctly. The pre-amp was sent back to Naim for a full service and recap in2012. You can check this with Naim direct, via the RMA number 21638/4. A fullrecap essentially takes the sound back to as new, meaning this particularexample sounds as good as if made in 2012. The pre-amp has very smoothcontrols and no volume or balance control distortion. Front and rear panels aremark-free and the power supply shorting plug is in place. All the lights workcorrectly. Cosmetically they are excellentfor their age a nicer pair would be hard to find. The only tiny blemish ofnote is a very slight lifting of the rear connection label, around the input onthe power amp. Obviously, this cant be seen in normal use and in no wayaffects the functionality. Please see images for personal appraisal ofcondition. It comes complete with itsoriginal Naim SNAIC 4 connection lead. This is vital for powering a matchingNaim pre-amp and is often not included. With a new replacement value of 180its always worth checking this is included! The NAP90/3 is fitted with itsoriginal plug (UK 3-pin) and the static power lead is clean and original (notcut short as some can be). The NAC92 is the AUX model withline level (for CD or streamer etc) RCA inputs. If youd like to use the ampwith a turntable, optional Naim NA523 or NA522 phono boards are available andan easy fit. About the NAP90/3 The Naim NAP90/3 is a great valueNaim starter power amp. It cost around 500 in the mid-90s and the equivalenttoday (NAP155XS) is 1400, so its still a high quality piece of hi-fi. The design is typically Naim withthe Olive front panel and illuminated logo, just like the far more expensivedesigns. The NAP90/3 has a built-in powersupply that provides power to dedicated Naim pre-amps. The perfect match is theNAC92 but it will also pair with the NAC102, NAC82, NAC112, NAC112X, NAC122X,NAC152XS, NAC202, NAC282, NAC62 and NAC72 pre-amps. As pre-amps make more of adifference to sound quality (as opposed to volume) than power amps do, you canuse a NAP90 power amp throughout a series of pre-amp upgrades. Start with aNAC92 and its only by the time youve worked your way up to a NAC82 that youneed to consider an upgrade to the power amp. About the NAC 92 The Naim NAC92 is a great valueNaim starter pre-amp. It cost 500 in the mid-90s and the equivalent today isover 1100, so its still a high quality piece of hi-fi. This is the non-R version meaningthat it does not have a remote control. Some say that it actually sounds betterthan the NAC92R as it doesnt have the extra electrical noise within thecasing. Its certainly the purists choice. The design is typically Naim withthe Olive front panel and illuminated logo, just like the far more expensivedesigns. Like all Naim pre-amps it has nobuilt-in power supply. This means that it must be used with a suitable Naimpower amp or powered by the Naim FlatCap power supply. Ideally it should be used withthe NAP90/3 or NAP150 power amps but weve experienced excellent results withNaim power amps right up to the NAP180. Although its Naims basicpre-amp the internal spec is decent quality, with a particularly fine ALPS volumepot and star earthing used. The optional phono stages are also of excellentquality.
