NAD 3020A INTEGRATED AMPLIFIERVery good example of this classic UK designed amplifier, included in all the top all time classics lists. Produced with audiophile listeners with limited budgets in mind, it became the standard for budget systems in the 70s and 80s and still sounds involving and detailed today. No “hair shirt” design as it gives flexibility with headphone jack, tone controls, soft clipping circuit to prevent distortion, choice of impedance rating and upgradability with outputs for a separate power amplifier provided. These are active when the jumpers are removed from the rear sockets. Also has a very decent phono stage which can be switched for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges. 3 other inputs including 2 line and 1 tape loop. 25W per channel into 8Ohms. Designed in UK and manufactured in Taiwan- the strategy which rdced many of the best value for money products in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Good build quality with all metal casing and chassis with moulded fascia plate over a metal back plate.Good working order: all switches and potentiometers treated; no crackles, silent spots or poor switching.Fascia very good with a few minor marks; case very good with a few scratches.On the front fascia from left to right: power on/off; headphone jack socket, bass and treble tone controls, balance, input selector buttons, record/monitor selector, loudness, volume with output meter lights above.On the back from left to right: switchable moving magnet/moving coil input with ground wire screw, Aux (CD), tuner, Tape in/out (DIN and Phono), Pre/Power in and out sockets with original jumpers, bare wire speaker terminals, soft clipping switch, impedence (4/8Ohm selector), hardwired mains lead with UK 3 pin mains plug. Sound is smooth, surprisingly powerful with good bass, excellent detail, separation and imaging with good placement of voices and instruments.
