YOU WILL NEED TO BUY THE SERVICE AND SEND YOUR UNIT TO US.
We take the following approach to servicing:
Disassemble case
Remove all dust and debris from the circuit board
Deep clean the circuit board with least invasive cleaning agents possible
Check power cord and chassis earthing
Check fuses are of correct value and clean fuse holders
Clean signal, loudspeaker and headphone connectors
Clean / lubricate pots and switches using best quality materials (ESL)
Carefully inspect all components for signs of damage, malfunction or overheating
Replace minor suspect components as required and consult on major issues
Desolder all electrolytic capacitors and replace with uprated equivalents
Copper foil coat electrolytics which are subject to stressful heat environments
Double-check polarity of all replaced capacitors
Gradually raise mains voltage with variac and current limiter in series
Rectify any detected issues
Check bias + zero offset and adjust as required
Inject test signals and validate performance
Burn in for 24 hours and retest
Clean case and control knobs / buttons
Reassemble case and polish
The result is an amp which is possibly better than new, given the improved quality of the components used, which retains the classic musical sound it is famous for and will give decades more pleasure to its owner.
We can service / recap any of the 3020 series amplifiers and related models, such as the 3120, 1020, 7020e, etc. Simply order above, let us know the address from which you’d like your amp collected and we’ll send you a UPS courier label. Please pack carefully and mark ‘fragile / do not drop’. We’ll return the serviced amp to the same address.
