Jantzen Wax Coils
Foil inductors are incredibly popular with DIY audio enthusiasts. The WAX coils have been revived by Jantzen as a result of co-operation with another well known maker.
These air core inductors use 99.999% pure 4N copper foil, as used in their Cross coil inductors. The bare foil is insulated by a special 60m thick quality paper. Once wound, each coil is impregnated with a polymolecular paraffin Wax, making the coil hard as a rock! This greatly reduces any vibrational disturbances on the coil providing an improved performance.
We have used these inductors in our systems and find them tremendously open and detailed. They are also available at a reasonable cost. Each coil is tested with Clio system.
Jantzen Silver Z-Ca
The Jantzen Audio Silver Z-cap range of polypropylene are a step up from the Superior range in that they have pure silver leadouts, offering a super smooth sound, a neutral tonal balance, without coloration. The sound signature is amazingly detailed with an authentic soundstage. They are made if polypropylene film metalized with aluminum and zinc particles.
They have a wide range of values from 0.1uF to 22uF with a high voltage rating so they will be at home in any high HT valve equipment.
The production process results in minimal inductance by interleaving the capacitor windings. The two windings are connected in series. So, for example, it takes two 2uF windings to make a 1uF capacitor of practically zero inductance.
Jantzen use a high tension machine to wind all their capacitors, thus producing very tightly wound capacitors. As a result they offer incredibly low inner vibration and keep micophony as low as possible. They have a tolerance of 2% and pure silver lead wire to secure the extreme high quality of these capacitors. The finish is a flame-retardant tape wrap, and the end of the caps is resin sealed to protect against humidity. Another key feature is, they do not need pre-aging, so no lengthy burn-in required.
The outer foil is on the left hand side where the screen print starts so this end should be connected to the lowest impedance path to ground.
