I bought these from a wonderful gentleman in Essex, whilst picking up a mint condition Technics SU-V 505; which is currently undergoing a full electronic restoration from S.H Audio in London. They were there at the time being used to demo the amp, and since i had travelled 80 miles we did a deal for the missions and a CD player as well. I needed a pair of speakers to use as I had none at all, and wanted to fully stress test the SU-V 505 for 5 hours so they served their purpose (and revealed many problems with the mint SUV-505 in the process which is to be expected for 37 year old electronics) I have since purchased some recently refurbished Raymond Cook Kef 104.2’s and am very happy with those, the missions were never on my radar but I paid 100 for the pair, i’m not bothered if i get my money back fully or not they did what i wanted them to do.
So this is a pair of mission 772 floor standers. Not in particularly amazing condition, the front PVC “FABLON” is lifting off which is common on these speakers, so it does let them down cosmetically. They sound good enough though, and the grilles are in perfect unmarked condition, likewise the drive units. I’m not going to beat around the bush on these and expect them to go for the silly prices most think they are worth, the truth of the matter is they are as common as houseflies and there are tons of them available to buy on the internet, they aren’t particularly rare or sought after either.
They are however very slim, and will easily hide behind a curtain, or if your looking for a better pair of speakers to go with perhaps a convenient single all in one component that would normally have cheaper quality small speaker units, it could be the ideal upgrade in terms of audio quality as they are easy to drive. If your looking for more high end pairings, there are much better options about.
Personally i would recommend that the drive units are removed, and the PVC crappy fablon peeled off. Give the under wood a rub down with some 800 grit, and mask and spray paint the area with either a matt black, or some colour of your choice and pop the drive units back. Why mission decided to go all blue-peter on these i will never understand personally.
