This auction is for a pair of very rare M2 activeloudspeakers from Meridian. These date from the late 1970s/early 1980’s. Thisset come with the original factory stands and are boxed in the originalMeridian cartons and internal packagingIf you are reading this, I guess you know what asuperb speaker this is, and if you dont there is some useful information onthe web. The M2 has a huge reputation, and deservedly so. The new owner will bebuying a piece of significant Hi-Fi history.Each speaker has 2 x Kef B110 mid/bass units and aKef T52 tweeter. The B110 is a classic and brilliant driver, used in very manyhigh end designs. The T52 is a superb high quality tweeter, but was used onlyin a very few expensive loudspeakers, due to its cost.Each enclosure also houses a 100 watt per channelMeridian 105 monobloc amplifier and an active crossover.Thecabinets are in lovely original condition with just minimal signs of use oftheir 40+ year life! The stands are also generally very good with just a few minorscuffs on the bases.Thegrilles are in very good condition, with no snags or tears and the ‘on’ LEDworks on both loudspeakers.Theysound very dynamic and punchy, but with a high degree of delicacy. they areimmensely powerful and always seem in complete control of the music. The bassis prodigious, but not overwhelming. They just sound ‘right’.Iused them with a Meridian 101 preamp, but they will work with any preamp, ordirectly from a CD player, or other line source, if it has a preamp /volumecontrol built in.TheMeridian stands tilt the speaker slightly upwards, as Meridian recommend, thedegree of tilt is easily adjusted by a thumb-wheel on the underside of each topplate.Iwill be really sorry to let these go, as there is very little else like them. Ihate to think what it would cost today to match the quality of sound I amusing a pair of 2k speakers that dont even come close.Thepackage includes the speakers, the stands, mains leads and the original packaging.Postageis quoted for UK, or I would be very happy if they were collected, if that ispossible. The winning bidder can collect from either OX14 (home) or AL5 (work).Ifthey are posted, they will be safe in their original packaging and I will wrapthem to keep the cartons clean from tape/stickers.
