These Aeon hybrid electrostatic speakers are simply superb but due to down sizing, are too large as they need space around them being dipole speakers. Like most electrostatic speakers, they do not go especially loud but are about transparency, detail and naturalness. Unlike most cone speakers, they become almost invisible thanks to a three dimensional sound stage that is detached from them rather than being a point source.
They are rated at 100watts and the recommended amplifier range is 80-100watts and I can confirm that a powerful amp is needed due to the 4ohm impedance which drops as low as 1.3ohms at 20Khz. (valve amps are no use at all except for use at low levels)
The crossover to the woofer is at 450Hz and frequency response is quoted as being 43-22Khz -3db, with 89db sensitivity.
They can be bi-wired or bi-amped and each one requires a 230v AC mains connection (mains cables provided) although the current consumption is negligible as the mains is only for producing the high voltage for the electrostatic panels and does not provide amplification. The power is shut down automatically after a few minutes when no input signal is present.
I have owned these for about 6years and they still sound great and have a sound stage with great depth and complete freedom from boxy resonances. The treble is open, smooth and natural and the bass solid and powerful. They need to be positioned at least a metre from the back & side walls so a good sized room is required to get the best sound stage. There is none of the arcing which can afflict other brands.
They are in good condition with a few barely visible marks in the vinyl finish apart from one corner of one speaker shown in the last photo which is not visible from the front. The panels and woofers are undamaged, as is the Oak trim that retains the panels to the frame. ML still produce spare parts for these speakers upon request.
They are compact, measuring 26cm wide by 40cm deep by 150cm high and weigh 25kg each.
Due to the size and weight, collection is required and I do not have the original boxes nor any large enough for shipping by courier.
The manual is included as are two mains cables.
