Hi, here I have for sale is a Luxman Basic kit turntable or as they marketed as the LUX KIT Deck in good condition. It it a belt drive turntable, it was sold as a DIY turntable in the 70s and 80s they were very well made and aimed at the upper end of the DIY as they produced many other things in the range. This one I have for sale is good, everything works great, 33rpm and 45rpm, the belt is a Rega type round section and I have included 2 silicon types as they are much better than the original rubber type which stretched beyond using, the bearing and motor run fine and silent, the plinth is great, the Lid is good, just some small scratches and swirl marks but no cracks, but does have one dig mark on the top. There is no arm included in the sale but I sure it would be easy to fit one, maybe like a Rega RB250 would suit it well also the deck is very large so I think looking at it could be possible to fit a 12 tonearm to make it something really different. Below is just a small section of what I have found on them. Thanks and any questions please email me, sorry this is a U.K. sale only and I will only post it to a U.K. address.DIY amps were popular at this time and LUX founded the LUX Kit company, offering 70 products, including vacuum tube amps, transistor amps, turntables and other units. The brand resonated well with the audio enthusiast market. They tested a production version, then known as the A522, in 1985, and wow and flutter was very similar to the Rega Planar 3 at 0.06% peak weighted or 0.07% RMS unweighted, which they described as very good results. The rumble of that one was much better at -44.5dB unweighted, which was slightly better than the Rega (-42dB), and was an excellent result. It was better than the majority of Technics/JVC/Pioneer top-end direct drives, and was similar to Lux’s own top-end direct drive turntables. For instance, a Technics SL1200 Mk2 was tested as -36dB, Technics SP-10Mk2 -46dB, the Lux PD-277 -35dB, Lux PD-131 -45.5dB, Denon DP-57L -48dB, Denon DP-1700 -39.5dB, and the Linn Sondek LP12, which was miles better than virtually everything (and probably still is), was -58dB unweighted (the limit of their test record). That’s why the Linn is so well regarded – it’s not just British hype! It’s just a pity that they are now so expensive, as well as being so hard to set up. The magazine decided that the Lux A522 had a very good sound, imparting little of its own character on the sound, and allowing the cartridge and tonearm (both Grace items) to work well. The electrical isolation of the cartridge from the motor and electronics was excellent (no hum). Thanks and any questions please email me, sorry this is a U.K. sale only and I will only post it to a U.K. address.
