LECSON AP1 POWER AMPLIFIER & AC1 PRE-AMPLIFIER COMBINATION – STUNNING & ICONIC BRITISH HI-FI!
FULL DISCLOSURE:
On offer is the Highly Desirable & Iconic Lecson AP1 Power Amplifier & Lecson AC1 Pre-Amplifier Combination in what I consider to be in very good/good condition indeed (& in comparison to most others seen). Please very careful examine the pictures posted & determine for yourself as a picture is worth a thousand words as they say & the photos form part of the buying process I am not a photographer & the pics were taken in Auto & Indoor mode on a Canon G9 Camera. To better illustrate the item condition, some of the pics were taken with both Flash & in Macro mode which by its very nature will accentuate much finer detail not normally seen or noticed with the human eye under normal viewing conditions but I wished to provide as much information as I could with my limited photography skills.
Like every Lecson product, having black, shiny perspex, they are notoriously difficult to photograph & to show every fine detail & the usual AC1 very fine Lecson swirls & marks may not show up on photographs & obviously for items of this age the paintwork on the finned metal on the AP1 is not like new perfect – there are some areas where the black paint has come away from the fins but this would be very easy to remedy – all it would need is a clean & some spray paint – even the handheld canned spray paint would workj very well – just a number of light coats need be applied. Considering the item is from the late 1970’s & 1980’s, I am of the opinion it is in very good shape for it’s age & one of the much better examples. If required, I am more than happy to take more pics if need be.
I was a Lecson Fanatic & Aficionado in my younger years & felt great to own such iconic pieces of fine British Audio & owned a number of Lecson products including multiple Lecson Amps, Lecson Speakers & the Wonderful Tuner which I sold at ridicously cheap price at the time! I cared deeply about my items & looked after them in an OCD manner as I held them in such very high regard. I had big plans about creating a full home cinema system in the future with multiple Lecson Pre & Power Amps but it never quite happened!
I remember just hope absolutely amazing these amps sounded much better than the Haflers I previously had – really amazing compared to many others at the time & always got great comments – I used Michell & Dunlop Turntables With a Denon DL103S & JVC Z1s & X1(?) Cartridges with the Shibata Stylus as I could not afford a Koetsu! I went the route of Carver as well as they were new to the UK at the time with much hype & although they were great too, they simply did not have the Emotionally Engaging & Magical Sound of the Lecson Amps.
PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING INTO FULL CONSIDERATION:
Both the AP1 & AC1 have been in safe storage for many years as I had originally never planned to ever sell any of my Lecson gear. I used these for about a couple of years at the time & as I moved on to newer gear, these were sent off to a Mr Paul Holmes at Meridian Audio in Cambridge (formerly Lecson) who as far as I know, is one of the only people at the time who had the skill, knowledge & experience to service Lecson products. I had them serviced fully at the time as I did not want any potential issues years on down the road. Both were serviced by him & upon their return went straight in to safe, dry & protected storage. They have never since been touched or used in any way whatsoever. I have only accessed them recently to photograph & list here as they would be better suited to another Lecson aficionado as my life & health situation has changed.
For the sake of full transparency, I am NOT able to test the Amplifiers in any way & wish to bring this to your full attention. I am an honest & sincere person & understand & appreciate that any person looking at purchasing these most iconic & highly desirable pieces of British Audio would like me, have a deep affinity & attachment to the product/brand & wish for them to be aware of the above before buying as I do not wish to mislead. As they were fully serviced before going into long term storage, one would assume that they should work fully but I am not a Materials Scientist & have no idea how electronic components inside would fare or be affected by this if at all. With full faith, I can attest that they would have been fully working at time of storage but I cannot account for issues due to other factors like environmental issues, age related components issues etc.
If you do buy, please factor for the possibility (however likely or unlikely) that there may possibly be some functional, operational and/or non working issues. Most purchasers of items like these are highly knowledgeable (more than myself most likely) about such products & the unique quirks, issues etc such products have and are very well informed & it is on this basis that I have tried to be as honest, open as as transparent as I can. With any vintage pieces of rare audio equipment that are collectors items, there exists the chance/risk that they work great & others that may not for a number of reasons. All I can attest to is that they were both serviced fully & then returned to me – that is all. If you do buy, you accept & take this potential risk as part of the buying process as no refunds or returns will be accepted.
In view of the above, if at all possible & to demonstrate sincerity, if able, I would very strongly recommend that any potential purchaser inspect & test beforehand – if you are from an electronics and/or Hi-Fi background – I am more than happy to accommodate this & actively encourage it.
I trust you will see I have tried to be as open, honest & transparent as possible but should you have any questions at all, please let me know & I will do my level best to answer as best I can – happy to take reasonable offers but wish for serious & genuine enquiries only.

If due to distance, collection is not possible & you are happy to take the risks via post/courier, then it might be a possibility for you to arrange your own courier/collection (please contact me prior to consider as an option) as being a delicate collectors items, I do not feel comfortable doing so – please accept that once it has been collected by any courier of your choice, I will NOT be responsible from that point forward for any item loss, damages, item issues, shocks, poor handling, delivery to wrong persons/address, item theft etc so I very strongly encourage you to have the item fully insured.
IF I do send, I will do my best to send extremely well packed & protected for transit & will take plenty of photos of the items in various stages of packing till the package(s) are fully sealed & will send these to you for your approval before sending so you can have total peace of mind that they were well protected for any journey to you, This may take extra time as I will need to find materials suitable enough & as my health is not great, there may well be a delay in sending within the stipulated time frame but I will do my best to send as soon as possible.
If outside of the UK, please contact me first prior so that I may consider your interest but be fully advised, items will only be sent fully insured & by trackable means with a signature required upon delivery & Insured International postage/courier costs will apply & I may elect for you to arrange & pay for collection so please strongly consider only insured & the safest delivery method – as items can get lost and/or damaged due to poor handling etc.
I recently sold another Lecson AP3/AC1 Pre & Power Amplifier Combination as well as another AP3 MKII here & the new owners now must be very happy so please also take this into consideration!
