For sale are my JBL K2 S9800 Special Editions.
These are fantastic speakers and sound great, partnered with decent equipment. They are quite sensitive, so will work well with valve gear and this is what I have been using over the last several years. They are very revealing though, so a poor recording or poor equipment will be shown up, and vice versa. They are very heavy at around 90Kg each, quite wide but not very deep. There is a measure of adaptability with these in that you have adjustments available at the back, and can set both low frequency damping and high frequency response to a choice of three settings each, which allows greater flexibility with rooms and positioning.
I am selling them because I have recently moved house and now the room I have for my system is smaller than before. These are too big and overwhelm the room, even with the adjustments mentioned above, which nearly but not quite fix the problem. I have had to come to terms with the fact I need to sell these and buy smaller speakers, which I really did not want to do. These are quite rare nowadays and don’t often come up for sale.
The colour is a gloss dark wood (black zebrano I think) for most of them, apart from the plinth and the curved top part, both of which are piano black gloss.
These are the Special Edition version. I am not sure what the difference is between these and the standard version is, but presumably something was upgraded and the price went up a bit too. They came out in 2005 and sold for 29K.
I no longer have the packing as it was just too large to store.
