The Intona high speed isolator supports USB full speed 12Mbps and high speed 480Mbps and provides galvanic isolation between the USB host and device and protects the device from power shocks and avoid ground loops that can be very troublesome in audio. It supplies the connected device with 300mA nominal current, 500mA max. This version support 1kV signal and power isolation and 15kV ESD protection.Download Data SheetSpecificationsProvides galvanic isolation to the USB busCompliant to USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (480 MBit/s)Backwards compatible to Full Speed and Low SpeedIsolation withstands up to 1kVRMSAdvanced ESD protection (15kV IEC Air-gap Discharge)Works out of the box, no drivers neededTransparent to host and device: wide compatibility to all operating systems, embedded systems and devicesWorks also with hubs and extendersSupports all USB-specific transfers and modesNo additional round-trip latencyPowered by USB bus, no separate power supplyUltra-quiet power rail isolation, linear regulation300mA nominal (500mA max.) output current on isolated sideConnectors: host-side USB-B; device-side USB-AStatus LED for each port showing bus state and speedImpedance controlled high-speed circuit designNational compliances: FCC, CE, RCM, ICES-003IP 54 ABS housingDimensions: 135 x 90 x 46 mmColor: blackMade in GermanyNote: USB Cable not includedWhat is the difference from the Hifime USB isolators?
The Hifime $29 isolator supports only USB Full Speed mode (12Mbps) that are used by stereo DACs that support max 96kHz/24bit.
The $99 High-speed isolator is similar in function to this isolator, but they use different technologies to perform the isolation. The Hifime high speed isolator supports most hi-speed audio devices but there are some devices with compatibility issues. In those cases it can be worth trying the other technology used by the Intona isolator.
The Intona has a lower noise DC supply for the connected device that can help to further reduce background noise from DACs and sound card.Additionally the Intona support higher voltage isolation. This is normally not relevant for audio usage, but can be required when used with devices like medical equipment or used in unstable settings or environments requiring higher safety insulation.Does it require a driver or special setting?
No. Similar to a USB hub, the isolator is transparent to the computer and doesnt require any driver or configuration in settings.Does it support USB 3.0 and 3.1?
Yes it works with USB 3.X ports. It will max out at 480Mbps, meaning if you connect a USB3.0 hard drive you will not get transfers at 5Gbps speeds. Audio devices doesnt need more than 480Mbps, so it will be sufficient. Most devices that require USB galvanic isolation doesnt require 5gbps.Does it support asynchronous USB?
Yes it supports all USB types, the isolator doesnt care, it just passed on the data to your computer. Will it improve the sound quality from my DAC?
It depends on your DAC, computer and electrical environment. If you have a ground loop then it will be removed by using a USB isolator. Additionally the isolator will clean up the 5V DC from your computers USB port. Some computers have very noisy USB power, while other are not so noisy, so the difference will depend on the starting point. Is it sure to fix the noise Im getting from my sound card/microphone/midi keyboard/other device?
It will fix noises that are caused by ground loops, often presented as whining, buzz or loud shh noises. However some noises are have other causes. For example the microphone preamp might be noisy by itself, or an electric guitar might pick up noise in the air from other equipment. For those noises USB isolation and better quality, low noise DC power will probably not help much.Model: 7054 / 7054-DK (dark)
