Up for auction is this used Garrard 60 Mk 2 fully sprung idler drive turntable from circa 1970. It has a custom built plinth that would have been seated in a suitable cabinet. You will need to add appropriate side panels to allow it to stand on its own.
The mechanisms and drive all work correctly and, as far as I can tell, all at the correct speeds. I have not been able to test the auto-load feature but the spindle is included.
The main platter appears to be damaged in a couple of places and I have tried to highlight this in the photos. It doesn’t affect playback but, if aesthetics really matter, a replacement platter can easily be sourced for about 15.
Overall, this is in really good condition for its age and was a top quality turntable in its day.
I have tested playback at 33rpm and 45rpm but don’t have the correct media to test at 16 or 78! The sound quality is excellent and the mechanism appears to be perfectly balanced without having to adjust any of the weights. Cartridge and needle are original and undamaged.
This is a heavy and bulky item and this is reflected in the shipping costs.
