Denon built this as a Absolute Flagship, and based on this the much cheapermodels, DCD1420,1520 2560 that were produced in mass volume put Denon as aquality manufacturer on the world map.The massive build quality with over 20kgweight leaves very few things which have not been considered, to name a few,copper sided double layered chassis, 4mm thick aluminum side and top frontcovers sectioned to provide mechanical dampening, separate digital and analogtransformers and power supplies, the analog power supply with massive 4700 micro farads 50V capacitors, isolation of mechanical and electronic sections,these just to name a few.On the transport side, the entire pick upassembly there are no less then 4 layers on ceramic reinforced dampening beforedampers and coil spring to absorb external vibrations. The KSS151A laser pick itself is a lineartracking motor with 4 servos working in almost real time, this with directdrive spindle motor gives impossibly fast tracking with which processing digital data withvery little latency and less error correction and data storage which give improved sound quality, and incase of user manual interrupt instructions such as skip reviewtracks with less then 2 seconds response even for the full track jump. Theloading is ceramic and solid with linear rod drive and guide.On the electronic side, Denon use a 20 bitLambda ( same as used by Krells ultrahigh end machines) with dual high end Burr Brown PCM 64P DACs and dual monolayouts.. The high end components and massive power supply provide possibly thebest specification in the digital and analog domain. There are fixed RCA,Variable RCA, Balanced XLR, 2 Co-Ax Digital, and optical outputs.The huge power supplies and quality Burr Brown DACs giving linearity specifications which cannot be matched with many machines even today, what is most noticeable instantly in terms of sound quality. Few high end machines with good sound quality can produce the type of dynamic sound with almost all genre of music. Rock, jazz and classic give it a 3D sound stage with very detailed separation. The vocals are never relaxed but almost giving you a front seat playback. This type of playback is never boring to listen to, there is always some additional pleasant surprise if you listen to the same disc or music repeatedly, maybe its the Japanese music influence on the design.The variable line output is designed to omit the Line amplifier and can be used to plug into the POA6600 power amplifier (or any) direct. This machine has scratches which have been touched up, the back plastic spacer has a crack (see photo). It has had a new loading cam fitted from a later model approved by the manufacturer and sometime you have to press the eject button 2 or 3 times before it operates.It has a a major service recently but the Laser has not been replaced as it is within specified limits. There is no box or remote, this and the above is reflected in the price.
