Cyrus CD6 SE2 CD Player for sale – in all original packaging, with remote, power cable and instructions.
It’s a fabulous sounding CD player (a What Hi-Fi 5 Star Award Winner – no less) maybe just as amazing today as it was when it was new and had an RRP of 700. I bought this second hand from a Cyrus Dealer – Moorgate Acoustics in July 2014 and it worked fine for about 2 years and then developed a small problem ….
The machine is in full full working order and plays discs beautifully, but with one issue, in that occasionally discs get stuck upon ejection, maybe 50% of the time. This does seem to improve with regular use, but I’m portraying the realistic scenario for the purposes of an accurate sale, in that you press the eject button, the machine whirrs and then no disc comes out.
Now because the mechanism actually works on insertion of a disc and often ejects a disc, I believe it’s probably an adjustment issue, but not being an engineer and this being high end hi-fi; I have had absolutely no desire to open up the machine and test that theory. Nor did I ever take the machine to a dealer and send it off to Cyrus to be serviced. No, instead I just went out and bought a new CDt model to go with the rest of my Cyrus kit, so it’s been sat in my loft. Now it’s time to sell it….
There is a workaround (and no it doesn’t involve pliers as others have suggested on the AV forums), in that you gently insert another CD on top, part way. Gently pressing down on the disc and pressing eject on the machine or remote and Bob’s your Uncle – out pops the CD. Obviously this isn’t a pragmatic or long term solution – but it does mean that the CD’s are not “lost” if the ejection mechanism “sticks”.
I’m saying all of this as I love all of my Hi-Fi and I’m gutted to have to sell anything in the “Spares or Repair” category, however, I appreciate that there is probably an electronics engineer who knows exactly how to fix this. Perhaps with a drive unit from another machine, because it’s too good / was too expensive to just throw away ….
