***EXCELLENT BOSE SYSTEM WITH SPECIAL EXTERNAL LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTIONS!***
This is an excellent Bose Acoustic Wave System 2 with the Acoustic Wave Multi-Disc CD Changer. Featuring the Bose UNIQUE ported loudspeaker system for mid-range and bass frequencies giving superb, undistorted , high quality sound this system has been enhanced even further by providing separate external connections for a passive bass/woofer loudspeaker and a mid-range/treble loudspeaker.
Bose are very reserved about stating what the RMS power output is from their systems, stating ‘adequate’! However technical examination of the components used and the heat-sink dimensions would indicate a probable 25-30 watts RMS, WHICH IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE IN A MEDIUM TO LARGE SIZED DOMESTIC ROOM
THE SPECIAL STEREO MODIFICATION
As a professional ex-BBC engineer I always thought that the basic Bose integrated speaker system could be improved. The modification installed is simple to use and then provides a separate, spatially separated RIGHT channel. Just by connecting standard low impedance (4-8 ohms)speakers to the small connector block shown in the photographs the main Bose speakers can then function as a LEFT channel. Due to the bass frequencies in the system not being particularly critical as regards location the separate bass/woofer loudspeaker can be positioned behind a sofa, chair, etc if visibility is a problem. The other separate mid-range/treble speaker should be placed at a reasonable height above the floor, at a point approximating to a RIGHT channel output. When I used this system in my house a cheap woofer (Argos, Richer Sounds, etc) with in-built amplifier was used and a small computer speaker, also with inbuilt amplifier, positioned at a point approximating to the RIGHT channel output.
By using separate integrated speaker-amplifiers it then becomes very easy to adjust the channel balance for optimum channel separation and loudness. This accessory connection does NOT interfere with any of the normal Bose functions and does not have to be used;however anyone who has heard the system in use always comments on the vast sound stage improvement and quality. As this modified Bose system takes up very little space for the improved performance offered it is ideal for smaller living areas.
Cosmetically the main Acoustic Wave System is in good order, with just some minor marks on the exterior in relatively unnoticeable areas. The whole system, including the CD multichanger and FM and AM reception is working perfectly, using either of the TWO Bose original remote controls or local operation. The LCD display on the top of the Bose unit, is slightly corrupted in that the frequency display numbers are occasionally incomplete-(see photos). Bose customer service have suggested that the internal ribbon cable solder connections may need checking for ‘dry’ joints, etc-however it is still possible to set up the preset radio stations as visibility is adequate for this. Accordingly the listing price reflects upon this small deficiency!
User instructions are available with this excellent system, which provides superb quality in an easy-to-use package.
note:-(the separate bass and treble speaker/amplifiers used by myself withthis are no longer needed and can be sold by separate treaty if required)
