Ayon CD2with (x4) 6H30DR 1980’s Russian Military Grade Reflector matched quad SuperTubes. Switchable for use as stand alone valve / tube DAC. Condition is Used.
I bought this wonderfully musical machine from the first owner, a well-known US manufacturer of high end interconnect cables. After dallying with it he sold it to me. He had bought the machine from the US importer. CDs sound really wonderful on this player, but I prefer listening to records. So I have stored it for years only connecting it up for a day or two periodically to check a particular new CD and then put it way away for use a year later. It seems sensible that it goes to a new home. I have around 2000 records and perhaps 200cds ! I must have used the player for around 100 hours. The gentleman before me used the machine little, and its nearly mint condition and completeness of all the pieces that came with it in its triple skinned shipping carton(s) attest to very good care having been taken of it. The remote hand controller, an amazing chunk of brushed aluminium and precision buttons is like jewellery, like the machine itself. But I should note that the remotes pair of batteries drain after around week, a known bug, and the remote works only when it is within afoot or two of the machine, but not further away. New remotes are available from Ayon. The manual is present, as is the power cord. The machine comes with both the originally supplied quad of Sovtek6H30 tubes, which are displayed out of the machine in the photographs. Also included in the sale are the much sought after matched quad (x4) of 6H30DR1980’s Russian Military Grade Reflector super tubes presently fitted inside theCD2 by the cable maker who passed these on tome to enjoy. The Reflector super tubes raise the performance of the machine to sound very special when compared with the stock Sovteks, and they cost $800. They are the proper 1980s items as the image of one of these together with the quad of handsome old fashioned printed card packaging boxes attest. Note these are not the suspect generic white boxes that one comes across. I would keep these tokens of Soviet era commercial graphical art, however the boxes will be included for the new owner to enjoy because they house the Sovtek tubes. The 6H30DR Reflektors are installed inside the machine. The US voltage setting was revised internally by Ayon’s UK agent-engineer for use in Europe. Condition 9/10. Please note in the images where I point to the four or five tiny nicks on the upper machine edges where the base metal just shows through the black anodized finish. The nicks are so small you do not feel them, and they are hard to capture in photographs; you would really have to look for them. They do not detract from the general appearance in use. These are barely visible but I note them herefor the avoidance of doubt.By arrangement you could listen to the CD2 in my system in NWLondon. Im not the only one that likes this special Ayon machine. Theseare glowing reviews : http://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/ayon_cd2_e.htmlhttp://stereomojo.com/Ayon%20CD-2%20CD%20Player%20Review/AyonCD-2CDPlayerReview.htmhttp://www.dagogo.com/View-Article.asp?hArticle=520AYONCD-2 AT WWW.DAGOGO.COM BY DOUG SCHROEDER.. where does the CD-2stack up?Consider that for most serious audiophiles who want outstanding Redbook performance, the CD-2 easily earns the right to be their reference player. Doug Schroeder, who goes on to write; The CD-2 is the replacement for the former top of the line two-chassis separate PSU CD-3: thinkCD-3 with 15%additional advancement. This is no small feat, as the CD-3 was a fine source for my $100K Super-reviewrig. Take nearly any parameter of the CD-3 and consider the CD-2 to have bested it by no less than 15% perceptually. I heard the two together in my room for an extended period, and both my heart and ears gravitated toward theCD-2. I consider it refined, rich, sweet and potent, a combination beguiling tome. Gerhard of Ayon points out the CD-2 is a completely new design and has no relation with the previous CD player designs. Ayon products are brainiac ed and assembled in Austria, the buyer is getting a calibrated musical piece, not a piece of musical equipment lacking calibration. There is a critical difference. The Ayon players all exhibit a lovely expansiveness in which the instruments extend naturally. To recap on the tubes courtesy of an expert:Reflector Saratov shield. Original Russian Reflector tube boxes–not white generic aftermarket container boxes– NOS Type on the tube is the Russian 630-. Information about the letters and symbols: = DR (Where Dis extra-long life and R is extra high reliability) OTK = Double Checked by Soviet State Quality Control<> = Diamond or Rhombus stands for Russian Military Tube. Tube rollers state that you will get a sound that has:Greater bass controlExcellent detail (never sterile or cold) An audiophile grade sound stage that is clean and crisp. One last fact: During the 1980’s the Reflector factory had to adhere to an extremely strict regimen and production standard. All of the tubes approved from there had to have exceptional parameters for use in Military machines.
