Audio Zone Pre-T1 TVC & Amp-2 monoblock power amps. Condition is excellent.
Canadian brand Audio Zone use Stevens & Billington (Music First Audio) transformers in the Pre-T1 passive preamplifier which has two inputs and two levels of gain. The Amp-2 monoblock power amp is a 50 Watt op-amp based design. Both have precision machined anodised aluminium casework and gold plated brass feet. The following is quoted from a 2006 review, the units have not had a great deal of use as their condition suggests
“Audio Zone is a Canadian company based in Toronto and run bytwo music and hi-fi nuts; George Tordai and Peter Daniel. They started thecompany three years ago using Peters background in mechanical engineering andGeorges experience as a retailer of vintage and used hi-fi as a basis for thenew venture. Their first product was the AMP-1 a two box integrated withoutboard power supply based on an Op amp output stage that AZ says it derivedfrom Junji Kimuras 47 Labs Gaincard design, they say that by using betterparts [and] better chassis design that the AMP-1 takes this technology to thenext level. All of which makes it sound like the gainclone Op amps thatare becoming the hardcore hobbyists output stage of choice on many of thebusiest forums. Op amps are amplifiers that are built into a chip, they aretraditionally used as gain stages within CD players and the like where onlysmall voltages are required. Using them as output devices is a bit of a thirdway approach between transistors and tubes albeit closer to the former in mostrespects.AudioZone likes these devices because they offer a very short signal path andrequire very few parts, they also claim that they offer the best of bothworlds, speed, detail, dynamics, control and bass of solid state without theglare and dryness.
Audio Zone has to be congratulated for building andfinishing their products to such a high standard. The Pre-T1 is anexceptionally good sounding piece of kit.”
