ALBARRY M408 MKIIThese are original in every way and as far as i am aware they have never been modified or repaired. If you know what these are then they need no introduction. I have had them for 10+ years but I am now started to sell off some of my high end Hi-Fi units. These were running my ‘Pioneer PD91’ through a pair of ‘Paradigm Towers’ and they sound amazing.
These are very heavy and would prefer pick up because I can then show them working but I will post them at the buyers request and expense but I will not accept any returns due to the rough handling of couriers as I have had expearience of this in the past.
Further Information on the Amps.
The Albarry M408 are built in an impeccable manner and distinguished by a strong personality that is expressed even in the very original, unique and unequivocal aesthetics: a content and leathery parallelepiped, rather developed in depth and made of two extruded aluminum parts, hinged on the top by an aluminum insert painted with a flaming red to cover the whole depth of the amplifiers. The two extrudates then act as heat sinks thanks to very fine fins on the sides, also developed along the entire depth and on which, inside them, the power transistors are directly glued. The front is made of a beautiful sheet of transparent red plexiglass, beyond which one can see the powerful power transformer and the two huge filtering capacitors. When the amplifiers are switched on, a striking internal LED further highlights the plastic front, creating an evocative translucent effect that vaguely recalls the world of thermionic tubes.
Immediately these monophonic finals exhibit a musical arrangement of rare beauty, without preferring any acoustic parameter to the detriment of others. The timbre is slightly euphonious, the sonic character is solid, dynamic, brilliant, precise without becoming radiographic. The response to transients is so precise and fast to rival the best solid state designs currently on the market, to touch the most extreme frontiers of the high-end. The tonal return of the voices and instruments (with a particular fondness for stringed instruments, always rendered with commendable truthfulness) is natural and correct, without inducing artificiality that would result in a fatigue of listening in the long run.Struggling with heavy loads, the Albarry do not break up in the slightest, in spite of their limited maximum power declared: the vigor with which they move the cones of the woofers without however decompression even at rather high sound levels (even within the limits of decency) are the ‘ evident testimony of a considerable current supply, guaranteeing a very long lasting and coriaceous product. The M408 simply demand to be pampered and cuddled, inserted in audio chains of undoubted quality, because able to offer so much substance so as not to regret amplifying more ambitious and expensive amplifications.Concluding, after 25 years from their first entry on the market, the Albarry remain absolutely current amplifiers, both for the peculiarities purely musical that for their design and design, rising to shining example of High Fidelity to costs still land, equally to few other products that in fact have marked the last twenty years (and beyond) of domestic audio reproduction (citing at random, BBC 3 / 5A, Rega RB300, Linn Sondek LP12, Naim Nait …).
