For parts only, like new, this hardly used transport is part of the Hi- End series with legendary VRDS represents excellence in the CD audio drive.
VRDS which has a cult following is a innovation from TEACcompany and the abbreviation stands for Vibration-free Rigid Disc Clamping System. It is used bymany High End manufactures and to name a few such as Krell, McIntosh Wadia,Spectral, Copland, Esoteric and Tascam, and the latter is for pro market -radio, broadcasting, studio and recording companies.
The CMK-3.2 mech (as used in the 10, 10SE, 15 and the 25) is superior in performance then the CMK-4 mechanism. This as it uses linear tracking motors ( up-down movement) asoppose to the latter which uses conventional rotational motors with worm gearto convert up- down movement. The CD tracking is a opto-electronic system whichuses four servos, these arefocus,tracking, Spindle and sled. Focus servo is used to lock the lens as thedisc is never totally flat but eccentric, tracking very much like the stylustracking a vinyl LP, the spindle which is used for what is called a constantlinear velocity CLV, compare this to a vinyl LP where the stylus moves from theouter to the inner diameter which are different and for the same track the outer diameter takesless space then the inner diameter but in this instance the speed of the motoris varied to keep the size of the track the same and called CLV. And finally,the sled servo used to move the laser pick assembly from outer to innerdiameter. Hence the CMK-3.2 type mechanism assemblies are faster as a result allowing digital data extraction from the head tothe be processed in almost real time for processing in the electronic domain.The VRDS mechanism has embedded aluminiumplatter and bridge for spindle tracking mounted on a BMC (bulk mould compound).
Althou listed as parts only it opens/closes, clamps discs, laser servo moves from outside ti inside and disc spins but fast and will not read TOC.
