Welcome to my auction

I have here for sale (regretfully) a Townshend Allegri passive preamp. I bought it from Peter George hifi recently who assured me that the previous owner had it serviced in 2017, so is updated and up to current spec. New RRP is 2200. This was a very interesting journey for me, all be it a bit short!

I wanted to try the Townshend Allegri because of my research into the subject of passive preamps. I looked at several but settled with this one. I had it running into a Primare A30.5  power amp (in quad amp mode) driving a pair of sensitive Tannoys. My very first impression of the Townshend Allegri was its clarity. It’s like it isn’t there, completely transparent. It doesn’t have a sound of its own. Astonishing! This meant I could hear so much further into my favorite recordings, so much so, it was like hearing them for the first time. I haven’t heard this level of detail from my speakers before. Amazing! The addition of the Townshend Allegri into my system was pleasingly profound. The bass from my Tannoys was simply subterranean along with crystal clear mids and highs. The background is black and almost completely silent. When I put my ear right up to the high-frequency driver I could hear virtually nothing. There are a handy 6 line level inputs and the important bit for me 2 sets of outputs for quad amping. Source selector and volume control on the front with a mute switch. That’s it. Simple but effective.

Unfortunately, I have to let this amazing work of audiophile art go. The minimum volume setting is ever so slightly too high for late night listening to CD’s in particular (neighbors). My Tannoys are sensitive and I have and available 200 watts x4 driving them. The power amp has a low input impedance which is great for passive preamps. The result is an absolute minimum volume perfectly acceptable apart from (in my case) after midnight listening. A less sensitive speaker would solve this but I’m not prepared to part with my Tannoys, so regretfully the Townshend Allegri is up for sale.

It will be shipped in its original box and insured up to the sale price.

If you have any question please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer you swiftly.

Good luck!!!
