Very compact, lightweight and elegant Q95C, belonging to Q-series of the British KEF, looks like technologically perfect product. The proprietary coaxial Uni-Q driver allowed to create a compact, with high spatial uniformity of the field system, not sacrificing low-frequency capabilities. A complex form of the body helps coaxial structure to make the field uniform and complicates life for resonances. Exactly the “space factor” of background sound of video has become one of the system’s main advantages. In combination with theatrical front KEF Q95C performed the test fragment from “Dragonheart”, when a cute dragon flies around the knight and talks to him, just brilliant. Good tonal balance of sound image is felt, detailed tops make the sound open, strong basses – reliable. However, slightly heightened attention of the system to high frequencies may negatively affect the playback of “hard”, with the abundance of sharp fragments like “explosive” and “whistling” episodes from “Daylight”. Good resolution of all spectral aspects of sound is kept in wide range of signal’s amplitudes that begins to affect the quality of space effects.
The center has sufficient amount of good bass and will be suitable for floor speaker system. KEF Q95C is worth buying by the owner of the system with some priority related to high frequencies. Relatively small sizes of Q95C allows its placement on TV with a small area of top cover and also – under the TV. Albeit, on top will be better but only for aesthetic reasons.
