Description Since 1978, Goldmund has taken analog reproduction to its feasible limits. At first with the finest turntables and tonearms, then with preamplifiers and amplifiers of exceptional dynamics and transparency, and more recently with the ultimate speaker systems.
The Mimesis 12 D/A converter is Goldmund’s second digital product. With the now famous Mimesis 10, Goldmund established in 1990 its technological excellence in the digital domain as well.
Most of today’s D/A converters suffer two serious limitations: – Firstly, an inaccuracy in digital signal interfacing and conversion. – Secondly, a very rapid and severe obsolescence when faced with the fast evolving digital technology:
The Goldmund Mimesis 12 converter has been designed to answer these two highly crucial questions: accuracy and upgradability.
Through the long and patient development of the Mimesis 10, Goldmund’s engineers discovered the importance of the digital interface technology. Mostly neglected by converter manufacturers, who always insist on conversion technology, the digital interface is handling the digital signal’s integrity. In most designs, the loss of information is considerable even before the digital signal reaches the conversion circuit. Keeping the signal’s integrity is what makes a converter sound detailed and perfectly imaging. If a lowest jitter clock recovery circuity is used and if the digital interface is carefully engineered, then 100% of the signal integrity is maintained.
To further increase its adaptation to any kind of digital environment, the Mimesis 12 provides a loop of AES-EBU interface in addition to the RCA S/PDIF digital input. And for professional use, a symmetrical analog output has also been implemented. The Mimesis 12 conversion circuit design is not disclosed by Gokimund. The Mimesis 12 is advanced enough to have to protect its technology.
