Rotel RSP-960AX AV Preamplifier Line Level Preamp Subwoofer Out Remote Upgraded
Very good condition, some minor marks. Includes original remote. Full working order. Excellent sound. The surround processing is outdated but this unit is well regarded as a line level stereo preamp for hifi use. It has a very nice slightly warm side of neutral sound and excellent signal to noise ratio, so it preserves low level detail well.
The “line” input on this preamp has been upgraded so that the input sensitivity is now correct for the higher output level of a CD player. The input resistors were changed and upgraded to special audio grade resistors. The sound quality is clearly superior to the other inputs, closer to a serious high end preamp.
From Hifi review: In our laboratory measurements the RSP-960AX showed very good to excellent performance in two-channel stereo and Pro Logic. Of particular note were the low noise levels. In two-channel mode, spectrum analysis showed a very low level of high-frequency noise combined with well-controlled power-supply leakage (worst case was 60-Hz hum at an inaudibly low -103 dB below a 0.5-volt output).
It also has sub out so this is a great pre for a 2.1 system (stereo speakers and an active sub). The way the subwoofer output works is ideal. The level varies with the master volume. The level is also adjustable on the rear for level matching. It can be set to be flat or 80/120 hz low pass filter. The bass quality of the LPF is very good and it rolls off at 12 dB per octave.
