Quad 405 hi-fi amplifier, made in 1978.
I have owned this Quad 405 for about 20 years and it has had little use during that time. It was cosmetically challenged when I got it from a friend and it hasn’t changed since then! I recently noticed that one of the reservoir capacitors was bulging slightly, as may be seen in the photos of the amp with the original capacitors still fitted, and I changed them for good quality ones which are inevitably smaller these days, requiring some adapters to make them secure in the original clamps. No other changes or modifications have been made as far as I am aware.
Included with the amplifier is the original instruction manual, a power lead for connection from a 33 control unit, an ordinary ‘kettle’ lead, and a 4-pin DIN to 4-pin DIN lead, and a home-made 4-pin DIN to twin phono lead.
The amplifier works perfectly, except for some minor mechanical buzz from the transformer which seems to be not unusual for these models. The amplifier will be carefully packaged for transit by Parcelforce in its original box.
