I got this a few months ago and quickly upgraded the cartridge to the Nagaoka MP300… I needed to switch to an automatic due to neuro disease making records hard to handle. Well… it’s been a while and I need to switch to tapes because I cant play records any more now. The cartridge is basically brand new, its had less than 100 hours or so.
It’s one of the few Sonys who has little mechanical Problems, as they used a high-torque Direct Drive brushless motor with Magnedisc / Quartz Lock to keep timing. It has a discreet 2 Motor design for the Arm (one each to lift and to move the arm, done so that the auto arm does not run off the platter drive motor, as most others do). The plinth is made of a mixture of sea shells and resin (its heavy and does not look plasticky, more like a muted gloss black) to make it heavy to absorb any resonance or feed back. It also has liquid gel filled suspesion feet, very effective (you can feel them smooshing about).
