So I had these ‘new’ Cherry veneer boxes…similar to AVI speaker cabinets but 7 litres not 5..so slightly bigger…bought them from a mate in the HiFi business…130mm bass driver & a 19mm tweeter….acquired a pair of the ugliest 1990 speakers with an excellent sound…black boxes – vinyl covered- plastic baffles..the Mission 760i…sounded brilliant – sold in the thousands – but ugly doesn’t cover it…so

Real Cherry wood veneer cabinets with the Vifa components of the 760i coupled to the Mission crossover which is a second order Butterworth…result is an attractive cabinet with a typically British 1990’s sound.

The final cabinet internal volume of both the Mission cabinets and the ‘new’ cabinets ( Rega R1 ) was within 2% in litres…so using the acoustic foam and placing the crossover internally we have the resulting speaker which is acoustically brilliant and spouse friendly.

Just as a final note ‘Black vinyl’ boxes were all the rage in the 90’s…and quite a few OEM’s used them with brilliant sales results…I myself had some Tannoys with the same design…nuff said.
