ARISTON ICON II TURNTABLE (manualoperation)The Icon IIwas Ariston’s last Scottish-made suspended turntable.  Styled very similarlyto the Ariston Q-Deck but with the superior “Enigma” tonearm (sourcedfrom Japanese manufacturer, Jelco).I boughtthis deck used in 2010 and it was my main deck for a few years. From new, and likethe Q-Deck, the arm would lift and stop at the end of an album side.Unfortunately whilst this seemed to work on the Q-Deck, it proved unreliable onthe Icon (possibly due to the suspension system?). It could be adjusted if youwent inside the deck but many users removed the mechanism and treated the deckas “manual” rather than mess about (also claiming that”manual” was truer to Ariston’s roots).  The previous owner had indeed carried outthis “modification” but could not find the removed parts to pass onto me so I have used it as a manual deck since I’ve owned it. (I’m comfortablewith manual decks going right back to a Leak Truspeed when I was at college inthe 70’s!)Moving thearm across to the record starts the heavy platter spinning. Once up to speed, within a revolution, operation is near silent (motor and bearing have beenlubed). The speed change button is on the left hand side (once the deck isspinning). There is a cueing lever to manually drop or raise the arm.  The deck is powered by an off-board DCtransformer also supplied. This deckhas been relegated to a second system for a couple of years while I toyed withother turntables, but I’m back on the manual path again with a Thorens so I’mgoing back in time again! The Icon has had a replacement belt and OEM stylusonly about 40 album sides  ago so plentyof life left in both. The cartridge is an Ortofon but it is unmarked on the sidesso I can’t tell what model. It came from a Dual 505 so could be the equivalentof an OM5, 10 or 20 so there is an upgrade route there using Dual or Ortofonstylii. I have also previously teamed the arm with a Goldring Elektra and anAudio Technica AT95E, both of which worked well. The suspended deck issusceptible to very springy floors – (probably a hint to me to get someof ours looked at)- so if your floors bounce like a trampoline this may not bethe deck for you. Or you could use a wall mounted turntable shelf and solve theproblem. My rack is located on an isolated area of floor so not an issue forme.Cosmeticallyin very good condition: both plinth and lid. There are speed  trim pots accessible from the underside, butthe speed is fine now and should stay so now that the belt has “runin”. I also have a bolt that serves as a transit bolt.Cash-on-collection fromBristol is preferredwhere it will be demonstrated working, however I have boxes and packaging topack securely for courier posting. (A certain amount of re-assembly will berequired by the winner as I don’t just throw the deck into a box and hope forthe best. Unfortunately I have received too many from sellers who have no ideahow to pack a turntable which have then been damaged as a result.)Thanks for looking. I’ll do my best with questions.IMPORTANTPLEASE READ:I am probably not alone but I amexperiencing an increasing number of non-paying timewasters, so now unless agreed otherwise with anywinning bidder, I will be lodging a claim for non-payment with Ebay after 48hours and closing the case 4 days later if payment is still not received, sothat I can recover my fees.  I’m sorry ifthis may result in a strike against the bidder so please think before youbid!  I am also listing some items on mylocal Gumtree so will end an auctionlisting early if the item is no longer available. Reminder: Paypal offer noseller protection for collected items so all collections are cash only. I regret that circumstances haveforced me to be less trusting.
