YAMAHA YP-211 *SERVICED TURNTABLE, a la PIONEER PL-12D/112D+ SHURE M75 CARTRIDGE. SEE ALL PHOTOS.Yamaha had a reputation for building thevery best in audio. Only later in the companys existence, did it startbuilding ‘consumer grade electronics’. The company too, is still very well known forbuilding very highly regarded musical instruments; grand pianos, cellos, violins nd the like. From this much esteemed marque, comes the YP-211 Record Player. Onlyas a point of reference, did we say that it was similar to the very popularPioneer PL-12D and 112D series. In truth though, we believe it to be superior.Doing a side-by-side test with a PL-12D and 112D also fitted with Shure M75 cartridges, the Yamaha sounded brighter, cleaner, fuller and more detailed across the spectrum!Note, the silver tonearm board andswitch-gear are solid aluminium castings NOT cheap, grey plastic items. As befittingthis level of quality, the machine is fitted with the legendary Shure M75cartridge. Of all cartridges, the M75 is possibly the best all round performer. Overall condition of this unit isvery good. There is some age vinyl shrinkage on tight corners. We are thesecond owners and purchased without a lid. By good fortune, we managed tolocate one from the US. It is full, solid and complete with shiny metal chromehinges etc. but has suffered some scourer marks from incorrect cleaning, leaving it slightly opaque on the top surface. This does not in any way detract fromthe brilliant quality of the machine, and we understand methods exist online tobring to a brilliant shine – similar to polishing car headlights. This is an excellent machine that would do exceptional service in any quality soundsystem.
