Selling my Croft Vitale valve preamplifier due to it now being a bit noisy in operation, so rather than get it repaired/serviced I have used it as an excuse to buy myself a new pre amp altogether. This Vitale is in working order but is noisy in operation and so is being sold on the basis that it needs a repair/service, so there are no returns accepted in this instance.
It is in generally very good cosmetic condition although there are a few marks to the casing plus a couple of scuff lines on the fascia, towards the left side, which I have tried to show clearly in the pictures on the listing. They never bothered me but if you are looking for a mint example then this may not be the one for you. Also, one of the rubber feet is different from the other three although performs its job well. No mains cable is provided but it is just a standard 3 pin IEC ‘kettle’ lead, so quite easy to obtain if you don’t have one spare already.
Functionally it is working although there is a bit more background noise in operation than there should be in my opinion, with a reasonably loud hiss present through the speakers even with the volume controls on the Vitale turned all the way down, and with the mute switch active too. The music that comes out of the pre amp sounds fantastic despite the hiss, and the on board moving magnet phono stage really is superb. The controls are all quiet in operation too, with no nasty noises when adjusting volume or changing between sources. I’m not sure if the hiss/noise which I am describing from the pre amp is due to there being too much gain as I notice that I hardly have to turn the volume controls beyond the 1-2 o’clock position to get decent volume (though that wouldn’t explain the presence of the hiss when the mute is active, I guess). I doubt it will take much to get the Vitale back in full working order and I know that the work that Glenn at Croft does is reasonably priced and he offers upgrades to his amplifiers too, so it would be possible for whoever buys the Vitale to send it away and get it ‘souped up’ at the same time as it is serviced, though I will leave it to the buyer to decide what they wish to do with it.
So, to re-iterate, this is being sold on a needs a service/repair basis and therefore is sold as seen with no returns accepted in this instance.
