PIONEER A400 Integrated Amplifier Excellent and legendary “giant-killer” heralded by the Hi-Fi press as better than anything costing up to 1000 in 1990. Set a new standard for budget amps, eschewing features and displays for a linear signal path with no tone controls and only a split volume control for balance adjustment. You do get a headphone output though! 50 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms. With Moving Magnet/Moving Coil switchable input, two Tape loops, and 3 standard line inputs. Designed and manufactured in Japan. Excellent build quality with all metal fascia, casing and chassis. Good working order: all switches and potentiometers; no crackles, silent spots or poor switching.Fascia good with few scratches but does have some marks around the input selector and below. Scratches to fascia top; case has scratches on top.Fascia has only power on button, headphone jack, record selector, input selector, L/R split volume control, MM/MC cartridge selector.On the back from left to right, phono inputs: moving magnet/moving coil with ground wire screw, Tuner, CD, Aux, 2 Tape in/out loops; 1 pair banana socket/bare wire speaker terminals (4-16 Ohm); hardwired mains lead with UK 3 pin mains plug.Sound is smooth, very powerful, excellent detail, separation and imaging with good placement of voices and instruments.
