This is a very high end Denon DCD-1520 CD player which is in stunning original condition. After playing a CD again in it to confirm it’s working condition I had second thoughts about selling as the sound and quality of the build on this, even just the buttons and the clarity of the display, reminded me why getting rid of it feels so wrong! But we have such a tiny amount of living space now and with limited funds too I just can’t justify keeping it. The unit weighs a massive 10 kilograms, more than several modern tellies!
This unit was brought back from the USA when purchased new, and therefore requires a 110Volt power supply (two prong US style plug). I have the old original home made 240v to 110v converter but it also weighs a ton. You don’t need it when such things can be bought so cheaply these days online (i.e. ebay item 323588733083 – 14.39). But if the buyer wants this transformer then it’s yours too, but will add to the weight and make packing harder. (Winning bidder please let me know if you want it sent or not). I would obviously much prefer collection but due to my location (West Cornwall) I expect postage to be needed and I will do so, but it will be a huge box to ensure this is extremely well-packed and fully protected from even the roughest courier. You will need to be at home to sign for receipt.
The pictures show what incredibly original condition this is in, I also took a video clip to show the only slight flaw with it which is the slightly ‘lazy’ CD carriage/drive. It opens strongly and closes strongly just until it’s 90% of the way in, then it needs a helping nudge with a finger for the last 1/4 inch. This is no bother at all as you’re standing in front of it ready to press play anyway, and it is repairable should someone wish to do so. I was told a drop of oil/lube on the gearing inside may be all it needs, but if not then worst case it needs a new belt which are cheap and easy to replace as a bit of Googling will confirm. The video can be viewed by pasting this link into your browser address bar: https://vimeo.com/333119963
I apologise for the CD choice (grabbed one off my son!), I just wanted to demonstrate the CD carriage and the fact it all works properly (I used headphones just for the demo). YOu can see the lightning fast response to skip/search buttons etc. This really is a beautiful piece of kit and I just hope it has pride of place in someone else’s home. If only stuff was still made to this standard today. (I just realised I didn’t show the remote working on the video but that also works perfectly as it should.)
I shudder to think of this going in the back of a van but I will ensure it’s fully protected and insured if postage is required. If not then it’s collection from near Penzance, Cornwall.
