To achieve accuracy when amplifying the signal, the A-S3000 employs a newly designed very rigid double construction. The insulator and the chassis together eliminate any external vibrations and give each circuit board a floating structure which supports an independent internal frame.
Yamaha has concentrated on low impedance throughout the A-S3000, which maintains a pure signal transmission path, capable of reproducing even the subtlest of nuances in recordings whilst being dynamically very powerful.
By employing a three-dimensional construction design the amplifier has sufficient space underneath the chassis for the cables, therefore the cables travel the minimum of distance for the power supply and the audio signal paths.
By restricting the cables to the shortest route ensures signal transmission loss is eliminated and smoothens the power signal, even with intense transients, which results in a very pure audio reproduction.
To eliminate any potential external adverse affects on the audio signal, the top and bottom panels are constructed from aluminium, due to it being non-magnetic. With research Yamaha examined the effects of sound quality as a function of the size of the panels, they found that the front panel thickness needs to be a minimum of 7mm and the top panel, a minimum of 6mm.
The amplifier design features an independent pre-amplifier and power amplifier blocks, which ensures left-right symmetry. Therefore, by separating the pre-amplifier, with low energy signals, from the power amplifier, that processes high energy signals, the amplifier sufficiently reduces sound degradation caused by the mutual interference of the pre and power amplifiers.
Also, by separating the left and right power stages in a left-right symmetrical design, means great channel separation and an increase in the clarity of the stereo image.
The volume control on this amplifier is top quality, being designed by the New Japan Radio Company for Yamaha, with a ladder-type resistance, which removes the potential impact of slew rate decline or discolouring the audio signal, resulting in a highly clean signal, and incredibly fast transient response rates.
The phono amplifier contains an MC headphone amplifier and an equalisation amplifier, both being discretely configured, which in a sound with a great perception of depth when playing records with Moving Coil or Moving Magnet cartridges.
The A-S3000 display features stylish large line level meters which show the dynamics of the music you are listening to. These LED illuminated meters give a warm, lamp-light effect. The meter indicators can also be adjusted, they can be switched to peak display, according to your preference.
The meters glass panels are precision cut on a diagonal and fitted to the back part of the front panel, to give a seamless top quality finish to the front panel.
